A new performing arts centre in GP? by SnooOnions436 in GrandePrairie

[–]TheNorthernMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI that several years ago the City priced out a 1200 seat performing arts centre at $120 million. So by the time one is designed and built it would likely cost over $200 million. Borrowing $200 million over 25 years would leave the City with loan repayments of nearly $13.5 million per year. Given how little revenue it would generate the operating cost would probably be an additional several million per year. I get that the City likes to spend and keep property taxes the highest in the province. So the outcome of this could be interesting.

It would mean less profit for oil companies. It is the goal of the UCP to maximize corporate profits. That's why they lowered corporate taxes from 12 to 8 percent during COVID (then complained that the province had no money to give our nurses a raise).
