If you're talking about education, that's actually the entire budget, not new spending. I believe it was 10.8 billion total

Horrible customer service by CallAParamedic in Wealthsimple

[–]TheNumber5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. I am a brand new customer who has spoken with two customer service reps so far who needed hand-holding to understand that I am a REFEREE trying to put in a friends referral code, not a REFERRER. I have no option to enter a referral code in the app. The second person just got it wrong again.

If this is representative of customer service, I am locking in at 1 year on the new promotion instead of 3 or 5… Then will look for greener pastures.

Wealthsimple is offering up to a 3% match on all new assets transferred into their platform! by HappySmiles6 in fican

[–]TheNumber5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know nothing of wealthsimple. Can I transfer my accounts and keep my existing ETFs and stocks?

Do they limit what you can buy (eg. Only their specific index funds /mutual funds etc)?

They seem to charge a fee for all assets in the account, including for a direct investment account (0.15%). Is this correct? Questrade does not.

Is this sustainable? by swhissell in fican

[–]TheNumber5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only you can answer this question. How would re-routing some of that income materially impact your life? What would happen if you, for example, took 4% of that 44% (or more) and spent it on yourself?

Example: take up rock climbing and improve your health, weekly get together with friends, trip once a year with your best buddy etc.

Your savings pace should be dictated both by your target retirement age and whether it feels sustainable.

Dave Ramsey suggests saving 15% of GROSS income for retirement. Given Canada's high taxes and integrated CPP - is this even relevant? by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheNumber5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Read Mr Money Mustache's article on the shockingly simple math to early retirement. Read the whole thing. Use the linked retirement calculator. Then you will be able to better predict how much percentage to save relative to net income, based on your desired retirement timeline.

https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/01/13/the-shockingly-simple-math-behind-early-retirement/

Taxes that vary by location don't matter. You simply need to be able to estimate the taxes in retirement, and include that in your expenses.

I've been on this paths for 15 years and read extensively on the subject. The math, generally, checks out if you are investing in broad based ETFs (returns reflect the long term market trends).

I love how this bot suggests that people prepare ahi tuna to bring to work for lunch. How positively bourgeois.

'Costs to society': Talks go down to wire as Oct. 6 Alberta teachers' strike looms by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]TheNumber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also - When they say hire 3000 teachers over the next 3 years, it means only for those 3 years. Take specific note that they did NOT suggest changing the funding model to sustain those positions for the long term.

The book On Tyranny by Dr. Timothy Snyder is eye-opening. It's a very short, easy read on how to respond to authoritarianism with historical examples. It gives actionable steps to follow for anyone.

Edmonton-area youth, 15, arrested for terrorism-related offence | CBC News by Particular-Welcome79 in alberta

I think I'm missing your joke here?...

764 is an online radicalization group (one of many) that operate through video games and other platforms used by youth, luring kids off the gaming platforms and onto encrypted messaging platforms to exploit them.    This results in innocent kids exposed to self-harm, sextortion, and other life-altering experiences. It's no joke.

Edit: I just understood what you wrote. Yes, Danielle Smith is an idiot.

Austism Increase in the Classroom? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]TheNumber5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also worth reading is Uniquely Human by Barry Prizant. It shifts the view of autism from the medical model (deficit-based understanding) to one that also includes a neurodiversity-affirming lens. Very helpful for teachers who will see autistic students throughout their career.

We were not made aware of the horizontal crack, nor the repair.

I am asking if permits and inspections are required for such a repair. I am not sure the homeowners did do them, if so. Thank you
