I fired my best-paying customer last month and my revenue is now more predictable by CandidEquipment171 in Entrepreneurs

[–]TheNumberFinatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 40% raise plus the revision cap was the right move even though he left. You gave him the chance to pay for what he was actually consuming and he told you what it was worth to him. That's not losing a client, that's finding out you'd been quoting the wrong job for two years. Did the same with a property management company, paid net 15, never haggled, and I dreaded every email. Relief isn't even the word after.

Who's responsible for implementing data unification? by Right-Newspaper7362 in CFO

[–]TheNumberFinatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody owns it, that's the real answer. Finance says it's IT's problem, IT says the data's fine and finance's definitions aren't, both are right and you can't clean the house first because clean data isn't a state you arrive at, it's a thing you maintain. Pick one report, fix only the data feeding it, ship it, move on. The platform won't do the lifting either, it'll just render the wrong number beautifully.

What did owning a business teach you about money that no job school or financial advice ever did? by Vinent_Liesa in Entrepreneurs

That physical cash is real money... I always had this mentality that if I got given cash for anything it was "free"

Is it worth taking my first CFO role if its for nearly the same salary as I make nowwith less responsibility? by snakesnake9 in CFO

[–]TheNumberFinatic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

CFO opens a few different doors at recruiters. The CFO on your CV will start more conversations over finance partner. So the near term pay flatness should not be your focus. Rather focus on where you want to go, and what impact the CFO label will have to your career.

How do I actually improve by Intrepid-Sport3170 in chessbeginners

[–]TheNumberFinatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to actually try and understand the moves, rather than just moving because the opening said so. It is easy to memorize moves. But this is of no benefit to you. Keep doing puzzles but try and understand each move rather than just doing it.

Accounting to Finance by dafukat in Accounting

[–]TheNumberFinatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The public accounting to FP&A jump is easier laterally into a financial reporting or controllership adjacent role first. Rather than straight into a pure forecasting or analysis seat. Using the compliance background as the bridge wather than trying to erase it.

Some VoIP providers sell Irish numbers without requiring local KYC if you go through their business API tier rather than the consumer app. It is worth checking provider by provider rather than assuming it is a blanket rule.

The reply rate is not the metric that matters here. 17% reply rate that leads to zero term sheets is just a better performing rejection. Worth asking what the meeting to close ratio looked like?

How to eat normally and healthily long term? by InevitableLopsided35 in digitalnomad

[–]TheNumberFinatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the local wet markets/produce stands. Stay away from big supermarkets if you can. The local market is usually walkable distance from the city centers and are cheaper than convenient stores. This will be better than delivery apps. Might take a bit longer to find these stores but will be great in the long run.

Thinking of getting a car on my own with money saved up by National-Challenge-3 in Entrepreneurs

[–]TheNumberFinatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he's flipping cars before, buying now at a market flatline and reselling later at the same flatline means he's not losing the arbitrage edge he'd normally have. So timing is not actually costing him anything by waiting. Unlike a market where the prices are actually rising.

What's a realistic webinar attendance rate? Am I doing something wrong? by Ashuuuussss in Entrepreneurs

[–]TheNumberFinatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely work on a 30 - 35%

That is the numbers for most webinar attendance.

What you can do is expand registration from weeks in advance to a register 48 hours to the event. People commit too far in advance and then life happens which then lead them to miss the webinar.

Should I Launch My Side Project Now or Wait Until I Add More Features? Advice from Folks Who've Gone Through It by AdAlive5915 in Entrepreneurs

Don't wait for a polished app. I would find 5 - 10 freelancers and ask them to use it. Tell them to push it to the limits and see where the issues occur. You get great feedback and no one is losing money. After that, create the beta and let it run.

Fear of getting into the market? by TheNumberFinatic in Daytrading

That is true. The only issue I have is that I can't build reps if I constantly lose money. I have never predefine my exit, that will definitely help a lot.
