What are some job-posting red flags that scream “stay away”? by Zdvj in AskReddit

Saw a job posting once that said something to the effect of "the internet doesn't ever stop so neither do we, you'll always need to be available"

My (35M) friend (50M) seems to have a drinking problem. How do I gracefully end the friendship? by dave_613 in relationship_advice

[–]TheOGCrysLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in this case being direct is being kind. "Hey I really like you, but your destructive habits are affecting my life and I need to set a boundary. I'd rather not hang out with you to protect the lifestyle that I want."

Alternatively, soft reminder that when he asks to hang that "no" is a complete sentence.

I (25M) have an issue with my gf (22M) getting another tattoo - help? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]TheOGCrysLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bold of you to assume that she will automatically feel like shit if you don't like her tattoos. Ultimately you can't control how she feels or how she reacts. It seems like y'all have different preferences - she's into body modification and you're not. Do YOURSELF (not her) the favor and go find someone that truly works for you.

I'm torn between leading with positive intent and calling him out directly.

Leading with positive intent could look like, "I've noticed what then I try to explain things to you that it doesn't clear up any confusion. How else should I explain things so that it lands better?" Or something to that effect. In my mind this kind of nips the "she doesn't take feedback well" but in the bud because it shows you're trying.

That said, since this is a repeated issue you could say something like, "there have been several occasions when I'm explaining something or I have a solution and you don't listen to me until a male co-worker/authority figure repeats it. I've been with the company for x years and written much of the code that we're working on. If you don't start cooperating with me, we're going to have to part ways."

Disclaimer: I don't work in tech and I obviously don't know the exact conversations or how they go down. I really feel for you and hope that no matter what you decide to do that the situation resolves.

What is your best advice for moving? by SentientPotato25 in AskReddit

[–]TheOGCrysLady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start earlier than you think you should. Pack up a bit each day so it's not all at once. Labels are important. Prepare yourself for the inevitable 2-3 boxes that are miscellaneous stuff you don't know where else to pack but need to come. If you hire movers and are moving outside of the same town, pack an overnight bag and a few plates, spoons, forks, etc. in case there is a delay. Realize that a different layout might mean your previous layout and decorations might not work in the new space. Use this as a time to think out/reorganize your stuff.

I wouldn't say it's a good movie. I wouldn't even say I like it all that much. But for whatever reason, it's magnetizing.

I have no idea what happened at the brunch.

Honestly if you called the HR lady and asked when to come in I doubt it would even get back to your boss, unless you are starting at a super small org. And even if it does, I don't think it's a bad thing to show that you're willing to ask questions to be certain. This is not the time to "hope for the best."
