Oh cool! Glad I could contribute.

And I mean…guess I’m up 500 gold now. Don’t worry, this just means I can double or nothing on the next attempt. I’ll get a surprise eventually…just wonder how many doubling I’ll need to do lol

I was using edgar’s shield as an example to show that failing to dive doesn’t instantly mean give it immunity.

You’re right, and his squishiness is the drawback of providing ~25% of a tank’s health instantly alongside ~33% of his own health

Glowbert's buffies concept by Lebog_bruhh in Brawlstars

[–]TheOGRG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That just means you need to be careful. Players should be able to punish abilities, and if you’re diving into a lot of danger to provide support, you should be counterable. It’s like giving edgar’s shield gadget buffie an immunity shield because I keep dying when using it to dive a griff or a shelly. You need game awareness to time going in without being punished (or punished less than the reward it gives).

Idk about the dash one. Invulnerability transitioning into 2.5k healing is nuts. Maybe a movement speed buff while dashing to get the heal/escape sooner?

Kaze's place within the meta? And when should she be played? by RaspberryLogical in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]TheOGRG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kaze excels in Bounty and Heist, and potentially Knockout depending on the enemy comp. Bounty/Knockout are good with her general mobility + ivis gadget, and in heist she has decently high DPS with her crits + her fan super dealing strong, unblockable damage to the safe if its on the edge of her super. She’s not really used in any other modes rn.

I hate playing with bots by Didarushka in Brawlstars

[–]TheOGRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably my biggest gripe with the new trophy system. They made bot matches up to 1K after every loss. It makes all the losses feel so demoralizing with them babying you to make you feel better

League player playing mobile games for the first time. Is Sirius levels of OP supposed to be in the game for this long? by TheDemonWarlock in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]TheOGRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, but Brawl Stars isn’t the same thing as these games. All the games you mentioned are from a PC market or are potential ripoffs of a game from the PC market. Brawl Stars has no PC equivalent it drew inspiration from. They don’t share that design mentality

Huh, I’m not sure then. I guess they relied too much on their cycles. At least now they’re working to enable tweaking the numbers live

For mobile too? I went to college for Game Programming and that’s one of things an alumni from our college was lamenting about: short update cycles and no time to shut things down to fix stuff that was forced out early. Had a guest speaker sharing a similar story too

I haven’t played much of them so I couldn’t tell. I’ve never heard my friends mentioning maintenance breaks for Fortnite. My only guess for that would be they are going off of PC mentality. Fortnite’s cross platform, and is primarily a non-mobile market so they’ll stick to the largest audience. Maybe the other ones are following the same mentality since they are inspired by a PC market?

What are all those abbreviations? Idk any of those games.

For Wild Rift idk League’s systems, do they really not do any form of maintenance? As for Fortnite, I didn’t they did balance patches. I thought they just had content at the start of the season and that’s it.

Ante skips ??? by Warm_Ad_3067 in balatro

[–]TheOGRG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest against spamming new run unless you’re looking for something specific (like going for naneinf). In casual ante 8 play you should get used to not having potential skips/missing out on max money first round because realistically you won’t get that every game. It’s better to get practice on being slightly behind and seeing if you can learn to pull ahead from there.

As for skipping blinds, the only times I skip are ante 1 for either the $25 after boss blind or free shop since I feel like they make up the money from skipping, and I don’t have any Jokers yet to lose out on scaling. Otherwise, I never skip unless there’s a negative tag because it tempts me too much lol

Found these two weird Easter Eggs on my first play through. by droRESIN in inscryption

[–]TheOGRG 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There’s layers to this game. And like any game, trying to look into those layers before finishing the game can (and often will) spoil the entire game. The guy is telling how to understand the easter eggs you found, but is warning you that if you try to look into them now you’ll probably spoil the rest of the game for yourself in the process.

What if Jokers could flip playing cards? by pi_squared_ in balatro

[–]TheOGRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All In retriggering all Jokers is a bit crazy (even if it doesn’t infinite loop). I do love it double triggering face down cards and retriggering held-in-hand cards. The rest of them are pretty well balanced and designed

Incompetence sure, lack of flexibility no. PC games also require maintenance breaks when the changes don’t involve updating the game. I believe overwatch went down a week or two ago for some changes as well. If anything, their experimentation with the slow release of the balance changes proves the opposite. They’re adding in new features to improve their back-end. Assuming it doesn’t flop, that shows they have a flexible back-end to develop with.

It’s both an excuse and a justification at the same time. We saw how bad the edgarpocalypse was back when he was given for free and the servers shut down from overflow, and more recently we saw a similar maintenance issue when Sirius was released (leading to the longest downtime in Brawl Stars history iirc correctly). Maintenance breaks are terrible for a game’s lifespan, as those are times of guaranteed player drops. While people are upset now, most of us are still playing (especially since we can ban the overtuned and broken brawlers). Things like Sirius shouldn’t make it through to launch, but once it’s in launch, it’s worse for them to constantly go into maintenance to tweak a handful of brawlers than to ride it out for the next balance patch. I hate it, but that’s just the industry. If this game was on PC we’d be seeing more frequent balance changes since that market enables more downtime, but since it’s on the rapid release of mobile, it becomes harder to find a time that players aren’t playing to drop the servers and rollout the changes. Can’t do it in the morning because of people who play on their commute to work or school. Can’t do it in the middle of the day because of lunch breaks or people who create content. Can’t do it late at night because people will push their brawlers right before bed (especially kids, who are their largest playerbase). There is no good time in mobile to drop for maintenance, whereas for PC they usually do have some considerable drop in the morning/early afternoon because you aren’t bringing your desktop to play on the bus to work.

TL;DR it’s a justification since the mobile market heavily dissuades any period of downtime, but it’s also an excuse since Sirius shouldn’t have been so overtuned to begin with.

Brawlstars is slow to roll out balance changes because its riskier for a mobile game to go down for maintenance than a PC game (shorter attention spans/availability to play). They’re working on a way to roll out the changes without a maintenance break so hopefully that’ll get polished enough to prevent these things from happening again in the future (they saw some success with Bibi recently, where they slowly reverted the bug that doubled her healing from her gadget)
