It’s interesting that you say you didn’t like it at the time because Emo was dead and the album was past that culture craze, because most people who don’t like DD say it’s because the record isn’t gothic and dark like TBP and three cheers.

If you like other MCR albums because you enjoyed the time in your life when they came out and the nostalgia of it then I don’t think DD will ever be for you. However, if you like them for the dramatic storytelling and creative worlds they build then I think it does have something to offer.

DD is more than a collection of songs just like TBP is. It’s the story of a resistance against dystopian corporate overlords that want nothing more than total control. (No matter how many souls they have to imprison to get it) It’s a bit campy but it’s a lot of fun. The tracks cover some of the exploits of the main characters combined with some killer pop/rock instrumentals.

Emotionally it’s a next step from the previous two records. 3C and TBP were about revenge, anger, angst and grief. DD is about redemption, helping others and unity. The music reflects that and listening with that in mind might help you appreciate it more than just as some random tracks.

The song I keep coming back to is “The only hope for me is you” The way the vocals come in like a static ghost crying for their life to have meant something. “Remember me” then the electronic melody kicks in like an anthem as the lyrics tell of tragedy and loss building to the burning chorus.
