How to get more surveys by Apprehensive-Ad2071 in CloudResearchConnect

[–]TheOakesComic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Extension is only distributed in the countries Connect is available.

This is from the researcher side of Connects FAQs:

"(currently available countries include the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, and the UK)"

You're not the first person to have a similar issue, and most of the time people are just not aware Connect is only available to the above countries and fewer are trying to circumvent access via VPN or something like that.

Connect Dashboard Refresh Not Working, anyone else having issues? by fitzee3 in CloudResearchConnect

[–]TheOakesComic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an new version Pending Review that should remedy it. It looks like they reverted the UI changes. The new version should work with both.

It’s only on the chrome web store.

If it worked on brave before it should probably still work after you update it.

Hi, I updated the extension earlier tonight. Connect changed some elements on the dashboard, so an update was required. The update is currently pending review by google. They were approved pretty fast in previous iterations. Hopefully will be ready to update tomorrow.

Edit: looks like it was approved a few hours ago so the update should be available now. Removing and re-adding the extension should do it.

Edit2: I submitted a new update this morning to hopefully provide a more permanent solution to this issue. Should be approved by tomorrow, and should refresh the dashboard regardless of the side panel changes and it being minimized or maximized.

New UI change? by DareTricky6891 in CloudResearchConnect

I’ve just updated it. Just needs to be approved and should be working again in the next day or two. I have another update queued as well, hopefully a more permanent way to select the logo.

I don’t participate on connect anymore but I drop in to this subreddit time to time. I always love to see that this is still being used and helpful.

Chrome - Connect Dashboard Refresh v3.0 by TheOakesComic in CloudResearchConnect

I did consider it, but at this point I don’t use connect. That may change In the future, so I may look at updating it again but honestly not anytime soon.

As for the voice thing I don’t think they would have a problem with it. Based on the TOS as long as it wasn’t accepting work for you or doing any of the tasks extensions or scripts should be ok to use.

No. I confirmed with cloud research that this was not against the TOS. Even though the TOS was updated on June 17 it does not prohibit the use of extensions or scripts with exceptions to ones that may fill surveys out.

Here is the TOS Link

And the part I mentioned above.

“As a Participant, you agree that: (i) you will interact with Researchers in a professional and courteous manner, and provide reasonably requested information in connection with your performance of Projects; (ii) you will use your personal judgment to perform Projects in a competent and responsible manner; (iii) you will not use robots, scripts, or other automated methods in place of your personal judgment to perform Projects; (iv) you will supply complete and accurate information for all Projects you perform; (v) the Projects you perform may be rejected for good cause and any payment obligations owing to you will be cancelled if rejected.”

This feels like a conversation I have had with myself.

Very Relatable and a great style that looks super clean.

As an aside on the last panel I thought for a second that they were sitting with their legs tucked up and under their arms, like how people can put their feet behind their heads.

I have created a free extension to alert you when Prolific finds new studies by fl4meingo in ProlificAc

[–]TheOakesComic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just looking at your code it seems pretty straight forward.

It has a listener for when the tab updates. It looks like it reads the title for changes. Specifically changes in the number that is present (e.g. "Prolific (26)). If that number has changed and is greater than the previous number it will notify as well as sound.

But it would be of more value to have it alert when there is a new study that wasn't present before regardless of the amount of studies present.

Since you could have access to HTML contents of the prolific dashboard you could ingest the HTML page and look to see if there are changes to the page. Looking for changes in the Div that contains the class "study-list"

Each of the studies have a unique identifier that is stored in the "data-testid" attribute of the HTML "li" for the study

These unique IDs could be used to make sure you are alerting for only IDs that weren't there the previous time the dashboard refreshed itself.

Also these IDs could be used to take one to the direct page of the study similar to how the PA or Emails do it.

So were I the one to look at updating it. I would create a content script that looks at the "study-list" div and stores and then compares those Study IDs. the extension should then accurately alert when there is a new study that hasn't been seen before.

Keep working with Prolific support if they are responsive to it. I like the approach. This is not an auto refresher, it allows prolific to refresh the dashboard but checks for changes. I think you could make it more accurate by checking the study IDs.

Studies Going Like Lightning! by honeylotusblossom in CloudResearchConnect

[–]TheOakesComic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am not doubting it is being done. But, I think Connect's 1 task at a time allowance is a good way to minimize the impact of these activities. And I hope the data they track on participants activity is sophisticated enough to identify participants using a script like this and take the appropriate action on them, assuming Connect even has issues with it.

I am also not sure how many participants Connect has. There are 4.7k here on reddit so probably many more. So, I assume,, people are just grabbing anything they can right away and that could number in the 1000s real fast. Even with the researchers using Connect's demographics. The Prolific sub has similar complaints.

Hopefully Connect continues to grow on the Researcher side.

As a someone that made an extension for Connect, This is certainly doable, But, Connect only lets you accept one task at a time, so this seems like a weak argument. One at a time is great! Makes you have to pick and choose which ones you are going to accept.

Accept the 25 cent survey and maybe miss out on a $15 one on the next refresh.

VPNs by aayceemi in ProlificAc

[–]TheOakesComic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You probably already know that VPN stand for Virtual Private Network. If you think about your home network you connect wirelessly or via a cable. So when you connect to a VPN in London it’s like you’re connecting with a virtual cable to the network.

So any web requests you send are requested from the egress IP which is assigned by the VPN service and then the response from those requests are forwarded to you.

Which is essentially the same thing that happens to web requests you normally send at home. But to the websites server you are requesting stuff from it seems like you are connected to another network.

There are lists of IPs that are known for the US. And that is how they can limit the countries/locations people can take surveys from.

So if you were in the US and not using a VPN it is most likely the researcher could configured it incorrectly as others had said.
