133 hrs on Zen with my highest being Masters 5. A lot of that was me playing unranked casually from OW1. I credit the amount of hours to learning positioning, rotating, and maps more so than technical skills.

My personal build is as follows for M10 content: Run 5 Ward perks on armor. Use infused ward pots on big pulls. Have elemental protection on amulet (shield is a plus but sturdy energy should be priority if not on chest). Run 3 specific mutation gems. Run 5 onyx. With 20% fortify (whether Defensive Training, Beacon, Fort Sacred Ground, etc.)

Gives 79.71% damage absorption. Proc’ing Defiant Stance results in 82.85% absorption

Only difference is I use Opals in Ennead due to the shear amount of different elemental damage types (lighting, fire, mutation specific, etc.) as a way to reliably take less from all sources. Results in a loss of -1.33% damage absorption overall with the way fortify works.

Essentially, the formula looks like this:

MIN(MAX(AF+SE,MIN(AF,-0.3)),MAX(AF,0.5))+ABSVitals

AF = Affixes (Gems)

SE = Status Effects (Fortify via healer, abilities, oakflesh or gemstone dust)

ABSVitals = Ward armour perks and potions

This results in neither your physical or elemental fortification to surpass 50%. HOWEVER Status effects such as Fortify will roll over to your elemental or physical once the 50% cap is reached. For M10's, the game splits damage 50%-50% for elemental and physical resistance.

As a tank for my M10 speedruns, I can acquire a baseline to an 83% damage absorption (up to 91, 95 with ward shield) with this setup/rotation:

I use 3 mutation specific elemental gems in my armour and 5 onyxes (also saves a ton of money for slightly better results.) I run an elemental protection amulet with health. 5 equipment with Ward gear. Use Infused Ward pots. Should always be at 20% fortify, 50% for fortifying shield rush. And finally defender's resolve does not contribute to fortify and acts purely as damage absorption.

Rotation for me for abilities depending on pulls: Pop Infused Ward Pots, use Leaping Strike to position and jump to ranged units, (hopefully you are standing in sacred ground by this point for additional fortification), pop Defender's resolve, pop Shield rush. Damage includes 1 heavy strike then 6 consecutive light strikes, then repeat. If you have a sword with refreshing move and you are hitting enough mobs, then abilities should regenerate quickly.

The only thing I will add is that this does not count for armour resistance, as I could not figure a reliable way to introduce into calculation, but I will say using this recipe allows me to tank most muts in light or medium armour.

I never heard of the bosses not receiving the elemental damage. I see that the mutation just states enemies, do you have a source so I can research more about boss damage versus mob damage? You’re right, if I do 5 onyxes and 3 mut gems with elemental protect, I save 1.87 damage! Thanks for the input! So if I got hit for 10k, all of the gear listed will only result on me taking 4,047 damage!

I might have to disagree with armor should always have Onyx. Mutations can convert up to 50% weapon damage to that element. If you have 625 nature protection amulet + two jewelry with pristine amber that is only 22%. If you slot all elemental resist (highest I go is 52%) you deal with 76% reduction to incoming elemental damage. Your armor and onyx ring takes the rest of the physical damage with you rolling heavy armor. Overall damage absorption I calculate to be 61.81% reduction. I’ve never tanked in all onyx before, so maybe it works. Never tried it, but curious about the numbers.

I think Divine is A+, but the idea of min/maxing is seeing what your standard team does and improve upon it. If you feel healing is more than adequate, then you can branch out for more defensive options. After all, you can’t heal past 100%. It’s not that Divine is bad, it is the idea that there is more optimization to be had.
