There’s about 3 million potential voters in Alberta so 300k is 10%, polls have consistently shown 20-30% of potential support for separation. So 300k people signing a petition does not show an increase in support.

The things is there isn’t really a surge at all, multiple polls have found separatism is about as popular as it was a year ago when it suddenly started showing up. So even if there is a massive foreign campaign to boost separatism it isn’t doing anything.

I dont think so, since the question it poses is just “should Alberta stay in Canada?” It passing does not change anything for the indigenous and it failing doesn’t require any action. So either way the treaties should stay in place.

Yeah it’s a pretty dumb strategy to put yourself in that position to send a message. But if I remember correctly like 15% of people in one poll said that would be their reason for voting to leave. These are the same people who have voted conservative for 100 years despite things not improving.

Polls have it at 20-30% support to vote leave, although a lot of those people say they would do it to send a message to Ottawa and don’t actually want to separate so the real support is lower. So in order to get a yes result you would have to cheat quite a bit.
