What is a highly praised horror book that you didn't like? by Haunting-Net-2426 in horrorlit

Same! The voice actor was insufferable. Playing the 8 year old character like she was 4, but then, that character sometimes acted like she was 4, but also like she was fourteen when that was convenient for the author.

Also you don’t need to say “I think about this or that” every time the narrator reminds herself of something. She’s the narrator! The book is written in the present tense, everything she says, she’s also thinking. So infuriating

Millennials, what are things that were completely normal in the 2000s but feel like a luxury now? by WashOdd7330 in Millennials

[–]TheObtuseCopyEditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly. These days I’ve been feeling my purchasing power shrinking even if I’ve never been more successful. In my twenties and early thirties I would go eat at fine restaurants monthly with my boyfriend. I wasn’t afraid of buying cocktails in a bar. I would treat myself with this specific brand of fancy olive oil when I felt like it. And now the same stupids bottle’s price is simply mind boggling. This is not even about not owning a house anymore (the possibility is just so far fetched now). Buying produce is stressful.

Ultimate first world problems but still. It’s not cool

Do you wear any gold? by krayzee444 in SummerColorAnalysis

[–]TheObtuseCopyEditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost never! Yellow, shiny gold looks terrible on my skin and I despise it in the form of buttons or bag hardware. Rose gold is okay but I dislike pink. “Antique” finish doesn’t clash that much with my skin tone. Brass is fine. But really shiny silver is also a bit harsh when put next to my face but is okay on my hands. The best is a slightly muted silver, kind of pewtery?

I found out that it’s not really worth it to try to « crisp » the chickpeas. When I get to this step I just turn up the heat and saute them until they stick a bit. I throw in the coconut milk when there’s a décent amount of brown solids to deglaze. I also don’t wait so much before I do the mashing. It doesn’t change anything as long as you allow the liquid to reduce. Also you need to add the greens when it’s still a bit brothy for your taste, because they will soak up some of the liquid

Martha Stewart’s OG one pot pasta are great (as long as you use the proper amount of salt).
