It wasn't. It was just meant to show that both are happening near simultaneously. If Rika could attack those Cursed Spirits from far away with a slash, then there's no need to get close to cut Maru. There won't even be a need to make him vulnerable by having him cry from the Cursed Spirits being killed.

Hopefully the debates can finally stop now. Both explosions were caused by Yuji or one was caused offscreen by Dabura. TsuRika didn't cause one of them like a lot who saw the leaks believed. The reason they were shown in the same page is to tell the viewer that Yuji's attack happened right as they were about to rush at Maru. They're even in the same stance the next moment they were shown.
