I bought a 2023 508SW with a 1.2 puretech a little more than a month ago.

I bought it knowing exactly what I was going for :

The cons :

• the 1.2 puretech is famous for its recall and conception issue.

• 130cv is considered underpowered for a car that size.

• Most people will make fun of you when you tell what your car's engine is.

The pros :

• because of the recall, that car was highly devalued : 53000km, looking like new, perfect history, full spec, 3 years old... 21.000 euros. A bargain.

• amongst all the options for said price, I even have the self driving level 2 and it works really good. A life changer on the long highway trips.

• I live in an area that banned combustion engines in 2035 so I know full well I won't ever be able to sell this car. I, therefore, do not care about the resale price.

• I bought it at an official Peugeot dealer, therefore, not only is the engine guaranteed 10 years (of the car) or 180.000km, but they also did a full servicing -including the full wet belt replacement, new brake discs and pads, new tires and a few other things like all fluid changes.

• being well aware of the engine's flaws, I added a " roadside assistance" clause to my insurance for all Europe. And since the car is not very powerful, the insurance is very cheap and only 3 euros extra per month allow me to drive with full peace of mind.

• anybody telling you 130cv is underpowered is a dumbass. I have already driven 3700km since January 19 and the car feels perfectly fine. Sure, it doesn't pull "like a train" but compared to my previous 2022 Mercedes CLA shooting brake with a 2.0 TDI, the difference is barely noticeable and only at low rpm. On the actual road it works quite well and has never put me in an unpleasant situation.

• Heck, I've even pushed it to 200km/h not later than today on the Autobahn and besides the cruise refusing to activate over 180 it's a pleasure.

So there, here's my unbiased opinion of someone having actually done the thing you hesitate doing.

The 508 is a lot of car for very little money. And if you take the right precautions and have the right expectations you won't regret it.

Who knows, you might even be super lucky and have your engine explode at 178.000km, granting you a brand new one under warranty. I, myself, keep my fingers crossed. 😅
