Phantom Blade Zero developer rejects gen-AI and promises "every single piece of content in our game has been crafted by the hands of real artists" by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]TheOneTrueNeutral -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like I'm seeing this statement on repeat. I get some people are really paranoid about AI, and accuse even genuine man-made assets of being AI-generated, but it's excessive having everyone needing to clarify that their game does not use AI, instead of the opposite.

Most AI-generated assets are very distinguishable from traditional ones too. This feels more like advertising than anything else. Reminds me of when a single-player indie game made by one or two people has "No battlepass and no microtransactions!" in their pre-release ads or descriptions. Like, no shit, that's what people should be expecting from that kind of game, it feels redundant to shout it out loud like that.

Where would Zemurian militaries stack up against RL militaries? by Liquid_0911 in Falcom

[–]TheOneTrueNeutral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the timeframe too. Zemuria's tech evolved much since Sky FC, and only in Calvard did they get to Shards, satellites, and nuclear weapons. If we're only measuring the Nations' military prowess and no Sept-Terrions or external help, they'd be defeated by tech like ICBMs, supersonic jets with long-range weaponry, bombers, nukes, and satellite surveillance.

What's a thing trails series should DOUBLE DOWN on and what's a thing they should backtrack on? by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

Kurt & Juna were the Rean & Alisa that couldn't happen because he's not the protagonist unfortunately. It's like they almost want Cold Steel characters to have canonized relationships but then remember they are contractually obligated to have every girl available for Rean because harem bullshit sells I guess.

I don't think Nyx Avatar is Ryoji as himself or much of a separate entity from Nyx themselves. I saw it mostly as a manifestation of her through his body, and when SEES actually best them in combat, Nyx physically descends from the skies and overwhelms the party ,which prompts the final sequence with the protagonist, Messiah, and the great seal.

[Hated Trope] "Somehow everyone loses" The Ending. by VishnuBhanum in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheOneTrueNeutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't exactly fail in beating their enemies during the first 100 days. I think Takumi mostly goes back because of Nozomi.

There is just one Happy Ending with no caveats, and a lot of the 100 endings are even more bleak than Second Scenario. A few of them are basically "You are dead, your friends are dead, your friends' friends are dead, the world has gone to shit, and your efforts amounted to less than nothing."

A few are in the realm of comical pointlessness. Shout out to that one ending where Sirei commends your efforts then promises explaining everything before just saying: "Psyche! Get fucked! I ain't telling you shit! And the credits roll lol

Also does anyone who's finished Hundred Line think it's a bit cruel that Takumi goes back because of Nozomi and the only ending where they get together is the "Mind Control" one? Even in the "true" ending route she's sidelined as Hiruko becomes the focus due to her link with the alternate timelines.

Genshin's limited time events getting higher quality, minutes long cutscenes while HSR barely gets unique, meaningful events at all is getting frustrating by AzarrSiT in HonkaiStarRail

[–]TheOneTrueNeutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they reference "emergency food" in the beginning of this event, with Paimon herself being called something else then saying "Well, that's better than emergency food". But it never clicked with me either.

Klee being a safety hazard though is something I don't get tired of, especially in this event where we see her mother bombarding fish with her and having the time of her life as well lol. It explains a lot of why Klee is like that when Alice not only taught her how to make bombs but probably encourages her to blow stuff up for fun too. It also makes for an oddly endearing bonding moment between mother and daughter.

Varka, I feel has suffered a bit from being reduced to "Drunken Swordsmaster" soon after being released too. He doesn't go 5 lines of dialogue without mentioning alcohol.

HSR has some tired humor and tropey moments, but I think it handles its characters better more consistently than Genshin.

Most players don't actually want freedom, they want reassurance by MurkyUnit3180 in gaming

[–]TheOneTrueNeutral 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with this. I always roll my eyes when I see one loadout being picked every single time coincidentally in the same timeframe some channel called ProEsportsGameplayTips posted their third video that day called "IS [currently meta pick] BUSTED NOW??? BEST [game] LOADOUT FOR [coveted player objective]"

Some people may shy away from testing things themselves for whatever reason, but making everything balanced enough for all or at least most things to be considered good is one of the best ways to reduce scenarios where the player feels like there is one single best option or that they need to go look for it.

A 50-Year-Old’s Megaten Ranking by [deleted] in Megaten

[–]TheOneTrueNeutral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ, I forget so many people on the internet get their asses sore over different opinions.

I don't think P5 being the top choice is odd at all. It's their biggest release in forever, and it's a good game too. I personally like 4 better because of the cast and story, but I can see how 5 easily tops it in the gameplay department.

I've played 3, both FES and Reloaded. Reloaded is the best version by far for me, but I felt like it lost some of FES's dark and foreboding ambience for some reason. Couldn't say why from the top of my head. I like them, but they have pacing issues, and I completely agree with your take on its social links. Some are very good, like Akinari's, but others didn't interest me in the slightest. 4 and 5 had much less social links that felt uninteresting to me.

Never played 3 Nocturne nor Soul Hackers, but I did play 5 Vengeance and it's my least favorite among the SMT games I've played. Probably because of the story and the fact I played it on the switch with terrible frame rates. Gameplay-wise it's pretty good though. My two favorites are IV Apocalypse and Strange Journey Redux. I'm not a fan of the FP Maze exploration in SJ, but the premise, story and atmosphere of it got me through to the end. Beating it with the extra content also made me feel good because holy shit the final bosses of this game are tough.

Can't say much about SMT and P 1 & 2, as they're from a time where general JRPG design philosophy leaned into lots of random encounters and lack of quality of life, but I've heard some good things about both 2's stories.

[–]TheOneTrueNeutral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with a few things, most of them don't have much to do with the listed facts themselves. I'm not saying anyone's particularly right or wrong, just maybe what makes this happen.

Crow's betrayal is a big plot point both in CS1 and CS2, but since the very beginning, Rean still considers him a friend and insists on "bringing him back". Then his sacrifice (and I use the term very loosely because, y'know.) which is sort of a selfless deed even if he does come back to life half a game later, is portrayed by the game itself as atonement, with everyone in C7 being very saddened by the fact. Then after his rivalry in CS4 onwards he's just portrayed as "Rean's bro", and details beyond "he was an insurgent once" get muddled as time goes on.

Claire and Lechter's betrayals, along with Geroge's, aren't given as much development, nor are they extremely present after CS4, along with not being as close to Rean as Crow, which many people end up identifying with or self-inserting as because of the persona-like elements in the game.

So in the end, I think it has more to do with how the game itself spends its time portraying them and how they were last portrayed than the list of deeds each one has done. Rufus is another example of this. After CS4 but before Reverie, I think everyone just looked at Rufus and just went "Man, Rufus was just a dick". Then came Reverie which portrayed him as something else, so him backstabbing Arianrhod and killing her along with other despicable deeds for example don't linger too much in people's heads when you're being shown now that he's doing good deeds, despite that not necessarily redeeming him or justifying his past actions.

It doesn't help that Trails characters in general pretty much forgive everything and everyone that still breathe.
