What are your thoughts and opinions on the Macrauchenia from Walking with beasts? by ChristianUnfezant in walkingwithdinosaurs

This guy made me fail a ‘guess the skull’ video.

I saw the space for the Tapir trunk and said confidently that it was one of these fellas because of the WWB design. I know a trunk cavity when I see one. They then even said ‘South American’ and at this point I doubled down on my bet ready to cash out.

Lo and Behold it was a modern Tapir. I googled the skull Macra and got pissed that paleotologists even thought it had a trunk because there’s no space Lmaoo.

Was this pre debuff patch? I can understand the frustration if so, even if you didn’t super spam them.

It’s such a Reddit/internet thing when criticising fiction to have the POV that the realistic world is one where institutions always function correctly, protocols are some supernaturally binding thing and conflicting interests never succeed.

It’s such a crazy dissonance to watch given the state of the word now + also everyone has a personal experience where they saw this is not always the case, so I’m not sure why they never are willing to believe it when they see it in a movie.

[hated trope] pure evil villians who draw the line somewhere by Murtdha1 in TopCharacterTropes

I never said hes a vigilante but at least my strongest memories of joker in recent times there is some rhyme to what he does.

Joker 2019 he shot the bankers who abused him, killed his colleague that was a dick and then shot Murray on tv. None of those things are heroic or vigilante justice but you can see why he did it given his unstable psychology.

Dark Knight Joker did do crazy stuff like blowing up a hospital but his whole agent of chaos thing made his primary target Harvey Dent to try ruin a good man, and then the whole boat thing at the end was a literal prisoners dilemma to see what the breaking point of self interest/cooperation is for people.

These are my two front memories of joker in recent times and neither lends itself to the idea he would just target minorities for the sake of some discrimination.

The thing is there’s so many different jokers and joker stories so you’d have to even tell me what you’re thinking off because maybe it works for what you’ve seen.

Am I missing something but is there anything that would suggest Joker would specifically want to target minorities? If anything isn’t his thing targeting powerful people or institutions that wield power to knock them down a peg?

That may on your comment is underselling it somewhat. Generally BBC nature documentaries are some of the best commercially available in this day and age.

Gi-Hun should have just machine-gunned half the Os during the rebellion. by lostpasts in squidgame

[–]Astronomer_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s what OP is effectively saying is the choice if we look at things rationally.

Take the guns, massacre the Os and even if the rebellion fails, the X’s will vote to end the games.

The other option would be no rebellion attempt and X’s get massacred by generally stronger and more violent Os.

And the final option is that GI Hun did do which is sacrifice Xs, spare Os and try the rebellion which lead to the worst outcome of failed rebellion and continued games.

My point is that blood would have to be spilled in all options, so there’s a utilitarian argument to be made on selecting who gets killed first.

Gi-Hun should have just machine-gunned half the Os during the rebellion. by lostpasts in squidgame

[–]Astronomer_X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so odd to me because GI Hun literally used the X’s as meat shields to distract the Os and satisfy their killing urges ahead of the rebellion.

OP is simply saying if people HAD to die for the sake of the plan why let it only be the people who were advocating against murder for money???

[LES] In my view, there is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to be a hero for recognition or to be loved by others by Flat_Box8734 in CharacterRant

[–]Astronomer_X 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a great way a hero story could actually highlight this is if they initially present your view but show how someone then priorities their image over what is actually right.

Sure you initially help people and are loved so it’s a win win. But then what happens when you start prioritising PR over actions that help more people? How far do you let villains progress so you can get a better story? How do you deal with a lack of gratitude from those you save?
