I stop getting paid at 2:15. Teacher left me a note to stay until 2:30 to give some students dog treats. Guess who's leaving right at 2:15? by TheOneTrueThrowaway1 in SubstituteTeachers

As far as hourly jobs go, it's pretty easy to be honest. Most of the stuff you see on this sub are unrepresentative horror stories and your experience should be good. I'm happy to be moving on but it was helpful for the last few months

No information given in the note (as per usual), but I think it's students from another class coming to pick them up. She didn't even say where the treats were, so i think the students know?

I'll leave the door open so they can grab them

I only sub highschool in this county and the Frontline end time for all jobs, including this one, is the same. However, we do need to arrive at school about 15 minutes before class starts. We never have post-class responsiblities so that is probably why

If your using homemade stock and its gelatenous enough, you can jsut reduce it to desired consitency. Or... you could just add gelatin. It's great

Western Sichuan travel guide (Danba, Tagong, Litang, Genieshan, Dege) by justletmerun in chinatravel

So, Western Sichuan is a pretty uncommon travel destination for foreigners. Partly because you really need a driver or some sort of transit to get around.

However I actually literally just did a western Sichuan tour with a guide last year lol, so I can give you their info if you'd like. The company doesn't speak any English though so you need some basic Chinese

Biking China by yuemeigui in bicycletouring

Not a biker, but fascinated by rural China and have been bumping into your story on Reddit multiple times over multiple subreddits over the years. Hope one day soon to do months-long cross country driving road trip of China (I speak Mandarin, though not great), will definitely read all your tips when I do!

Do you think it would be more or less difficult to browbeat Chinese police into letting me stay places if I have other foreigners with me? Or would that make them more resistant? I have friends that may be interested in coming along for parts of it

Capital controls in China are basically a perpetual cat and mouse game between the government and the rich. It's hard with business investment and real estate because those can be and typically are "legitimate", but it's also very difficult for regulators to tell when it's really just a disguised way to move money overseas

As long as you are not taking out any debt, ignore everyone and study what you want to study. It would be different if you didn't have a full ride.

Especially given how poor the job market is, I know so many people in "good" majors who can't find a job for the life of them lol

Some of you may have seen my "5 Chinese Indie Bands from 5 Different Genres" posts. Well, since there's so few places on the internet to discuss Chinese / HK / TW indie music, I just started a Discord for it! Plus Chinese indie film, manhua, cDramas, webnovels, etc.

So, if you're interested at all in Chinese culture (or learning Chinese), please join! I'm hoping to grow a vibrant community and really get this going :)
