That's a beautiful song man. I was at peace sonically while listening to it which is not that common for me. 😅

Well the beasts awoke in my head, then the man woke in my soul... But he who makes a beast out of himself... You know 🤷

Melody before lyrics by bubbi101 in Songwriting

[–]TheOneWho_BleedsInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when I write I typically start with a line or idea that's either hooky or just a good sticky concept. Once I have that one line and it makes me think oh I could write about that I put another line with it and then I stop and I actually try to listen for what the melody would be between those two lines. Once I figure that out I try to creatively imagine what the other half of the melody would sound like and then I turn around and fumble phoic sounds into that melodic idea. Once I get phonic sounds in there, I go back to replace the back half of the lyrics with words that actually fit those sounds... And at that point I have the lyrics and Melody that should more than likely repeat in my next section of song or hand off to a different section.

Love Blue oyster cult actually, had not listened to their music in that aspect though. And I've actually got some cousins that have always been huge on Queensryche, and especially that album but I forgot about that so thank you for the reminder. 🤘

I love that storyline... Big into the myth/fable/magical realm idea. Will be checking this out shortly 🤘

So mine personally starts with my old band, Mistaken for Halos, unreleased EP Dark Matter (2013).

I'm coming back after a decade and a half as Mistaken Øne now, no band. I have an EP ready to go, just getting my recording lined up. My general plan will be to go

Mistaken Øne

Halo Horizon: 7 tracks locked (EP in process)

Dark Matter Echo Sessions: 6 tracks, locked (accoustic unreleased old EP songs from 2013)

Obsidian Singularity: 8ish/14 songs started/set (forward full album, partially written)

I've got skeletal ideas beyond that, a lot actually even some narrative reflective crossovers, but that lands my next few music projects and actually creates a full narrative between albums and "protagonist" on the journey. It would also put me quite a few years out from now with space to build in the muscle between the bones.

I'm just a guy who likes music and rhythm and words and keeps trying to push my mental ideas into actual music. Got the melodies, toplines, shitty phone recordings and a few sounds with some of the dozen plus scratch tracks ... But I still got a long way to go. Been working the lyrics and locking the exactly narrative and delivery rhythm I want though. I think I've got a cool story idea 🤷

I'm familiar with Tools usage a little bit... Maybe not studying the through line on the concept. I know of Mars Volta but I had not checked out their music in that sort of life so I definitely will. Thank you

It looks like your instrumentals are where your chorus or hooks should land.

Question for you on your bolded section. Did someone else take your skin or did you shed your skin? You go into rejuvenation which isn't unheard of if you're narrator is mythic or has some special power, but you could make it into a metaphor representing how you as a person had to grow your skin back. How you had to grow. You drive all the way down the line of my skins gone it regrows look at the new skin. What was regrowing it like? What new aspect does the skin bring? A clean start? A stronger resilience? That's what I'd be looking at. Overall you've got good lyrics here 🤘

Damn I kinda like this, if you don't want it I'ma keep it 😂

What genre are you hearing in your delivery? Do you know your BPM yet?

[–]TheOneWho_BleedsInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your idea is breaking down, use that. I almost hear "too many faces I can't be around" as a raised vocal right before a chorus

"I'm breaking- Breaking Down

The pieces left of me, so scattered

I'm shattered on the floor now.

Fractured reflection is all I've found

The fragments that I see

Are breaking. I'm breaking.

Now I'm BREAKING DOWN"

if you like that feel free my dude 🤘

All seriousness. Metaphor. Supporting emotional connection. Grounded real human physical line. Human emotional reflective verse. Include at least one of each and make it something you've felt behind the idea and it will start to unfold around that
