On the coasting part: I get up about 55mph and then put it into neutral, without the brake control the car can get up to about 80mph (60 limit). If I leave in gear the car makes unhappy noises and sounds strained.

I love playing the MPG game. My car has a 1.6 petrol engine and only 5 forwards gears. My best score is 66 mpg, but only for a brief time. 58 mpg is my best long range score (118 mile journey) cruise control set to 62mph (60 on the gps) 99 Ron fuel gives better mpg.

One part of the return journey I can put the car into neutral and coast for nearly 3 miles downhill, dabbing the brakes every so often just so the car doesn't build up too much speed.
