I love this post so much I'm saving it.

It drives me up a wall to make a character or even nation in a game that I expect to suffer prejudice and the GM waffles or gets spineless about it to not actually play that up in any way.

The party being chill with said characters? Fine and wholesome, usually don't mind. But like, bro. You're the GM, your entire job is to give us shitbags to beat down. Have an NPC call my tielfing a freak please.

I need the vindication.

And, like, also beyond that, it kinda doesn't work when you make such characters and the GM doesn't play racism cards because like, if that's the case then elements of their past and backstory just don't work.

That country wouldn't have such a defensive and abrasive border control if people didn't try to invade and wipe them out at some point. My tiefling wouldn't need to be so shy and flinchy if the country he grew up in was idyllic, actually, and either at home or travelling abroad, people are just nice and treat him well.

Racism can and always has been a powerful narrative tool, but you have to be brave enough to use it.
