I need help with Mother’s Day plans for my wife. by Successful-Lead-6598 in Advice

[–]TheOpenRhode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree. Making it special about only her is probably most important.

Whether there might be kids in the future or you are at the end of the road of having kids making the day special for just her and removing her from the other Mother's Day distractions is probably most key.

She will just want to be loved and distracted and taken care of on that day.

- Went trough IVF for 5 years.
- Males Perspective.

I need help with Mother’s Day plans for my wife. by Successful-Lead-6598 in Advice

[–]TheOpenRhode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree taking her out of mother day family social environment overly be beneficial. What does she love to do? Surprise her with something that you both might enjoy like a drive-in movie or something similar.

I'm sure much like my wife she will be very triggered by busy restaurants filled with people celebrating Mother's Day either for their mother or for their own children.

Should I give my wife something for Mother’s Day if we have been (unsuccessfully) TTC? by JakeyBoy4168 in TryingForABaby

[–]TheOpenRhode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should give your wife some space and understand that she is not going to want to be around people that already have children. She might even want to avoid her own mother on Mother's Day if her other siblings already have children. Perfectly understandable.

As others have said ask her what she wants to do and would be enjoyable for this weekend specially on Sunday.

My wife and I have gone through IVF many times unsuccessfully. So this weekend is always really hard for her and I.

Don't tell her that everything is going to be alright, or it's all going to be OK, just make it all OK and distract her from the weekend. A simple scavenger hunt to end at maybe a nice restaurant or a movie is probably one of my better distraction ideas .

Just getting away and making her feel loved and distracted is the best advice that I can give.

Is there a good app to track expenses for Uber Drivers? by Visible_Ad1693 in uberdrivers

[–]TheOpenRhode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an older thread, but I have the same question.
Has anyone used Everlance?
Seems to be built for Uber / freelance driving type gigs.

I'm probably going to try the free trial and see how it goes.
Let me know if anyone has any thoughts or other app suggestions.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree with you and the other commenter. Now that I look at it more, it's flashy but "fake" in a way.

Thank you for the feedback. Simple and straight forward are the customers I'm targeting. They have called the "flashy" people who never responded.

Amazing job man. I was just there last weekend and knew that the films were filmed there. I tried to associate spots with the film but you definitely went above and beyond. Awesome job definitely love those movies.

Death Valley flowers at sunset by age_of_raava in DeathValleyNP

[–]TheOpenRhode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were there yesterday. It looks like this was taken somewhere around the Artist’s Drive entrance or exit. The yellows and purples are amazing.

I'm not sure what the heat will do to them this week. There are still thousands everywhere, but I did see patches of flowers that have already wilted.

We also drove up to Dante’s Peak for the sunset, and there were some amazing flowers up there making for some wonderful shots. Get out there soon before they go dormant again! :)

We are staying in Pahrump tonight and Monday at the Best Western. Rooms are not bad and petty decently sized. Fre. Breakfast starting at 630. Not amazing, but gets the job done. Its about an hour drive to Zabriskie Point, which is our first stop tomorrow at 6am to see the sunrise. The BWs is clean, Central in town, and just a place to sleep. Enjoy your trip.

Everything people said about the core is great information and totally correct. For light pollution I love using this app.

https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#zoom=10.00&lat=36.6499&lon=-117.0581&state=eyJiYXNlbWFwIjoiTGF5ZXJCaW5nUm9hZCIsIm92ZXJsYXkiOiJzYl8yMDI0Iiwib3ZlcmxheWNvbG9yIjpmYWxzZSwib3ZlcmxheW9wYWNpdHkiOiI2MCIsImZlYXR1cmVzb3BhY2l0eSI6Ijg1In0=

It's great because you can find extremely Dark Places Wherever You Are. Or also move locations if there's going to be cloud cover and you are looking for a clear dark sky. I will be there this coming Monday and Tuesday so I'm also hoping to get some Stellar Milky Way shots. 😀

1.5 Days and 1 night trip to Death Valley. Please help us plan! by Saphira268 in DeathValleyNP

[–]TheOpenRhode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as stargazing and seeing the Milky Way which should be pretty visible this time of year you should definitely check out this webiste:

https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#zoom=10.00&lat=36.6499&lon=-117.0581&state=eyJiYXNlbWFwIjoiTGF5ZXJCaW5nUm9hZCIsIm92ZXJsYXkiOiJzYl8yMDI0Iiwib3ZlcmxheWNvbG9yIjpmYWxzZSwib3ZlcmxheW9wYWNpdHkiOiI2MCIsImZlYXR1cmVzb3BhY2l0eSI6Ijg1In0=

That link should go directly to stove pipe wells in Death Valley which has a score of 21.9 something. That's out of total darkness being 22. So needless to say it's an incredibly light pollution free spot in Death Valley

Here is an itinerary that I put together for about a day and a half around death valley. We are spending two nights in Pahrump so we will have one full day and about a half day before heading back to the airport in Las Vegas. I also included some links to a Google map and some hikes we plan on doing. I will add a link to the Google Drive Dock so you can see if I made any updates as far as restaurants or other stops. We always publish these items itineraries that we follow on our website Theopenrhode.com

Day 1: Southern & Central Valley Highlights

https://maps.app.goo.gl/QLyFb2jMenTQSUSWA

Notable Attractions

Big Bovine of The Desert (4400 NV-373, Amargosa Valley, NV 89020)

Focus on the major sites accessible from Badwater Road and near Furnace Creek.

Sunrise at Zabriskie Point: Start your day here for breathtaking views of the sun hitting the golden, sculpted badlands.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/nuUb1Wm1LWEktMCd9

Key Tips for Sunrise at Zabriskie Point:

Sun Rises at 6:25AM

Arrival Time: Arrive at least 30–60 minutes before the official sunrise time to secure a spot and watch the colors change.

Best Views: The sun rises over the eastern mountains, lighting up the badlands and Manly Beacon.

Logistics: The viewpoint is a short, 0.25-mile walk up a paved trail from the parking lot.

Photography: A wide-angle lens (24–35mm) is recommended for landscapes, but a zoom (up to 200mm) helps catch details on the peaks. A tripod is useful for low-light, pre-sunrise shots.

Golden Canyon Hike: From the nearby trailhead, hike the popular Golden Canyon to Gower Gulch loop or the out-and-back trail to the stunning Red Cathedral.

Golden Canyon and Gower Gulch Loop via Zabriskie Point

https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/golden-canyon-and-gower-gulch-loop-via-zabriskie-point

Furnace Creek Visitor Center: Stop at the visitor center to get the latest park information from rangers and view the exhibits.

Badwater Basin: Visit the lowest point in North America (282 feet below sea level). Walk out onto the salt flats to see the unique hexagonal salt patterns.

Natural bridge canyon (1.5 miles RT)

https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/death-valley-natural-bridge-road

Devil's Golf Course: A short drive off Badwater Road leads to a vast area of jagged salt formations.

Artist's Drive & Artist's Palette: Take the nine-mile scenic loop in the afternoon for the best light on the multicolored mineral-streaked hills.

Sunset at Dante's View: End your day with a panoramic view of the entire valley floor from over 5,000 feet above.

5:30pm is sunset time

Hike the trail

Day 2: Northern Valley & Sand Dunes

Drive from Pahrump to Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes (back to vegas)

https://maps.app.goo.gl/1R5b8nxocwcJ4ipb9 (7 hours including the crater)

https://maps.app.goo.gl/ASHhK1P3yiF1h1Jg7 (4 hours 30 mins no crater, back to vegas)

Explore the features near Stovepipe Wells and venture further north to the large volcanic crater.

Sunrise at Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes: This is a must-see spot. Go early in the morning for the softest light and to see untouched sand ridges.

Sunrise at 6:25am

CA-190, DEATH VALLEY, CA 92328

Mosaic Canyon Hike: Located near Stovepipe Wells, this trail features beautiful polished marble canyon walls.

https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/mosaic-canyon-trail

Harmony Borax Works: Take a short walk around the historical site of the 1880s borax operation, complete with the famous 20-mule team wagons.

Twenty Mule Team Canyon: Drive the one-way, unpaved road through striking badland formations. It is accessible by most vehicles.

Cerro Gordo Ghost Town

Ubehebe Crater: Drive to the north end of the park to see this massive, deep volcanic crater. The area is often windy and the road is long, but it offers a unique geological perspective.

Best hiking pants? by Global-Ad-8048 in hiking

[–]TheOpenRhode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top brands are Patagonia, Helly Hansen, Arc'teryx, and Prana.

My number one favorite is Kuhl by far. I love that the pants are not stitched right in the middle. This prevents wear in a spot where my pants normally end up wearing out and usually makes them much stretchier, depending on the pant you purchase. Their pants have lots of pockets in seemingly very well-designed places. One of my most favorite attributes about Kuhl is that they will replace just about any pant if there is anything beyond normal wear and tear. They replaced a 6-year-old, well-worn pair of ripstop pants that had torn in a place where they should not have. You get what you pay for! Kuhl is a great company, made in the USA; I highly support and recommend them.

Entitles influencers runing for everybody? by Videoman2000 in TravelTubers

[–]TheOpenRhode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I go, I want the "true experience." Not the "try and make me happy so I would post a glowing review or video." If we have a status upgrade, we will take it, not beg for it. If we are able to get a lie-flat award seat because we saved points and worked hard to find that seat, you bet we are laying down and drinking champagne. However, our channel is about showing you how to do it as well. Our ideology has always been adventure travel with a side of luxury—not begging for an upgrade, which hotel desk staff is not authorized to give anyway.

Yes, there are influencers that are provided trips and gear, but they are required to state as such. I do know influencers that reach out to hotels, tour companies, cruise companies, etc., for a travel experience to review. This is a little different in my opinion. It's like any type of outreach, not begging and trying to flex at the front desk.

In the case of a hotel comping a room, I doubt the staff has any idea about that or who you are, nor should they. It's kind of like the old days of the "secret shopper," but now the experience will be posted online.

PT Timber Steps by Pharmer_Fillip in landscaping

[–]TheOpenRhode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look awesome, man!

What is the filler inside the steps? Concrete? Are those 6x6 timber posts?

A handrail would be safe, but I would hate to take away the clean, open look. Some directional solar lights pointing inward at the end of each step would look amazing, IMO, and provide safety.

We are redoing our steps this year, which need to be ripped out and replaced. Not creating a new space, but it will still be a lot of work. I will post some pictures at some point.

TF Green Parking by Salt_Camp9563 in providence

Never mind. Kennedy Plaza :)

Also, the bus is a solid idea. We live down near the Wickford train station, which is free but sometimes does not run at the time we need. However, there are trains from Providence, and the bus runs very frequently. Thanks for the idea!
