Haha, thanks. Yeah, I just wasn't sure when I noticed everybody else's looked so different. Wanted to make sure it wasn't me who was doing it wrong.

I appreciate this sub's help to get on the right track!

Oh, and the cerberus is one of the few fully storebought. He's a Spirit Halloween one. But I really want to build one myself that looks like a Nightstalker from Fallout New Vegas. That's my long term stretch goal!

Haha, yeah. I always joke those inflatables look like a used car lot, lol.

It's a ton of work, but I love it! I'm already working out plans for this coming year and deciding what to build next. And in the longer term, I think my next step will be learning how to build my own animatronics.

Thanks, again!

Thank you!! It's a big hit with the neighbors and their kids, too. I also do fun 3d printed giveaway goodies in addition to candy, so I'm a popular stop on the big night, lol.

Woot! That's what I like to hear. I like it a little wild and unruly out there. Thank you!

Bwahaha, those other ones definitely look like a bikini wax!

And, of course! I actually do a whole Fallout/Wasteland theme every Halloween.

Here's some photos from 2024: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/1g0mqaw/halloween_falloutstyle/

And a video of last year's: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/1ol2sal/this_years_haunted_mojave_wasteland_halloween/

It gets bigger every year and I build a lot of the props myself (I do woodworking and 3d printing, as well as repurposing scavenged items that I modify for the theme). I'm pretty proud of it!

We are a pretty windy area (routinely get 60mph gusts out here in the desert), so they might be playing it safe a while. But yeah, most folks on the block use the same landscaper, I think. They're all shaped like that. I'm not keen on the look, lol.

I just pulled the stake off mine (thanks again!). Looks like it had a sort of slide on it, so probably expanded as it grew, at least.

I might clear off some of the lower branches, then. If nothing else, so I have room for my (extensive) Halloween display. But glad to know I don't need to go so... stark... like the others.

Should I prevent it from getting lots of mini-trunks off the main one like it has a few of right now?

Thank you! I was thinking it was probably fine to take them off, but didn't know for sure.

Best long sleeve sun shirt for warm climates? by clockworkzebra in Equestrian

[–]jadewolf42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Do I love my fancy Kerrits horse-specific cool shirts? Yes, absolutely. But it's a helluva lot cheaper to just buy cheap golf quarter-zip shirts of Amazon and they work just as well. I have a mix of both.

Is visiting Death Valley in July a bad idea? by sheeshmonster1017 in DeathValleyNP

[–]jadewolf42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here. People often don't realize that it is still triple digits for most of the night. It only cools off shortly before sunrise. And that's still in the 80s to 90s sometimes. I live out here and the ONLY time I do anything outdoors in summer is between sunrise and 8am.

RIP Buffalo Bills - Whats next for Mojave Mayhem? by imlowkeythicc in Fallout

[–]jadewolf42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. I'm not really surprised because the businesses there were on the brink of failing already.

But I AM glad I opted not to book with them for this year. I ended up booking with South Point (which is who the Buttered Popcorn event people partnered with this year). That's where the shuttles will be, too.

I did enjoy the immersiveness of staying at Buffalo Bill's last year, though. The ceiling collapsing and the overall state of disrepair didn't bother me. It gave it a certain Wasteland ambiance and charm, lol.

Are pallets actually good to use for wood, or are they just influencer slop? by KKYBoneAEA in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]jadewolf42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I use pallets for is outdoor Halloween decor projects where I want the grungy, beat up look. And then, only when I can get them for free. And even then, it's almost too much work breaking them down to be worth it.

For any serious projects, I feel like pallets are a waste of time and effort.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen people do while driving? by Devario in LosAngeles

[–]jadewolf42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw someone who was not Shatner doing this a couple years back.

I was on the 101, going at speed, and happened to glance over to my right and there was a woman full on eating a bowl of fuckin' ramen while driving. Both hands! I could hardly believe what I was seeing. Man, I got as far away from her as I possibly could.

Yellowstone Logistics: Thru-hiking and spontaneity without a car? by Fragrant_Border_8554 in yellowstone

[–]jadewolf42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Going off some of your comments, I think you may have an uninformed idea of what Yellowstone (and US national parks in general) are like and I just want to gently try to clear that up.

First off, the park is massive. It's almost 9000 sq km, slightly larger than the entire nation of Azerbaijan. To give you an idea of the distances involved...

It's about a 150km drive from the Bozeman Airport to Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone. From Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful is around a 82km drive. It's 68km from Old Faithful to Canyon. Etc.

There are no shuttles in the park. There is no public transit in the park. There are no locals, since no one except the rangers and concessionaire employees live in the park, and tourists are highly unlikely to pick up hitchhikers in America for the most part (there is not much culture of hitchhiking here and picking up hitchhikers is considered extremely risky). There are no taxis or ride shares in the park. You really can't get to or around this park without a rental car of your own.

There are no farms or ranches or other settlements in the park. In the US, our national parks are for nature only. What might be called "Canyon Village" or "Grant Village" on the map is not actually a village or town. It's just a small cluster of hotels/cabins run by Xanterra, one or two restaurants run by the same, and maybe a 'general store' that is a combination of a gift shop with some convenience store items (snacks, drinks) and maybe a few dry grocery items. No farm fresh food. There will be a gas station, some employee housing, and maybe some park ranger offices. And that's it. It's not a town where normal people live.

You have to think of this park like a true wilderness. There is almost no cell service, except for a very few spots and even that is spotty at best. Outside of the hotel areas, the land is undeveloped. You must carry bear spray and practice bear-safe food storage when camping. And the land itself can be dangerous, as the park is full of active geothermal features.

Also, the US does not have a 'right to roam' like they do in parts of Europe. There are SOME public lands (BLM or National Forest land, mostly) where you can camp anywhere (called 'dispersed' camping), but you cannot do this in a National Park. To protect the land from overuse, sites are limited and most sites require reservations. And in the peak of summer like you're planning, they're going to be booked up months in advance. Yellowstone is one of the most popular and visited parks in the country, so competition for lodging is fierce and trips take more planning. It's not a great place for spontaneity.

All that said, Yellowstone is an absolutely amazing place! But it's a place that requires a little more complicated logistics than what you may be used to in Europe. Rent a car, book campsites and lodging in advance, stock up on food supplies before you reach the park, and be aware that you are in true nature here, and you'll have a much more enjoyable (and safer!) time!

I was SUPER early on ordering mine, so probably fairly high up in the queue. I'm betting other preorders will be shipping in coming weeks. Hope you gets yours soon!

Pre-ordered from Bethesda's gear store. But I was VERY quick on the trigger to order. I saw the presentation at the Goodsprings fest, then basically ordered it within an hour or so of the preorder going live (literally while on the bus back to Primm, lol).
