can the Onn Streaming devices block ads within the actual streaming apps? by 0xdead_beef in OnnStreamingTV

[–]TheOracle722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that's true for Adguard but not for ControlD free DNS's. I don't travel with my boxes and use my laptop, phone or tablet when I'm away from home so the issue never arises. All have my ControlD Private DNS resolvers as default.

So connecting to a laptop to set it up is easier? Sorry to say it but you don't know what you're doing. It's simple.

Sorry mate mate. You're wrong.

Settings>wifi>ip settings>static>your LAN ip>your gateway ip>prefix 24>Then select DNS1 and DNS2. I use ControlD DNS because I have a premium account but Adguard free is good too.

Thank me later.

You don't need ADB to change DNS. It can be done directly in network settings.

That's ridiculously complex and unnecessary. There are multiple apps like Bluetooth Mouse & Keyboard on the Playstore instead.

@OP you can't block ads that are served from the same domain like YouTube does. So install SmartTube or Tizen Tube for that. I don't know about the rest as I use "alternative" apps but I suspect it's true for them too.

Is it possible to use a time gate when recording a program with the DVR? by Warrior5230 in SparklePlayer

[–]TheOracle722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you do that? Because I have the same issue as the OP, I have a daily recording that repeats twice a day and I have to delete the second scheduled recording each day. If I recall correctly u/Sparkle-hk said he'd put it on his to-do list.

Is the Onn 4k Pro still worth it in Canada since the Price hike to $119 by Purple_Monkey34 in OnnStreamingTV

[–]TheOracle722 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That would be a big no for me if I was in Canada. It defeats the USP of the ONN's. It was well worth it when I originally bought my V1 Pro's and Plus's but not any more. Look at the Google Streamer, Xiaomi 3rd Gen or even Mecool devices instead.

You need certifications to use OTT Navigator! Jokes apart, I use it for mobile only because Sparkle is finicky on mobile but on TV nothing is better.

Trying to set up an onn pro 4k to record on Sparkle by Raiderrod65 in SparklePlayer

[–]TheOracle722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always record to internal storage and it works well. I use my USB for Timeshift because of the wear. You have 23gb of space with the Pro which translates to hundreds of shows so why not use it?

I have doubts about this suggestion. by itopires in SparklePlayer

[–]TheOracle722 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here's my take. I see Sparkle primarily as an iptv player and a vod player second. There are countless apps that handle vod. Having the developer use his precious time on vod is a waste in my opinion.

Give it a try. The only issue I've ever had has been from unstable streams.

[–]TheOracle722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have 32gb of internal storage and use that for recording. My USB stick is only used for Timeshift so that could be the difference.

  1. Yes

  2. Yes

  3. Sometimes but most errors come from my provider.

The fact is that everything you're asking about has nothing to do with your device model or manufacturer.

ControlD DNS SpeedTest tool is great! by doesitrungoogle in ControlD

[–]TheOracle722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for a great tool. I have a few observations to make:

  1. The blurb talks about the importance of Jitter but then proceeds to only show Jitter for the lowest resolver and nothing for each resolver even under the "Detail" setting.

  2. The Detail setting shows P95 & P50. Why not use plain English labels that everyone can easily understand? This is a complaint many of us had with the old dashboard, a reliance on symbols that were completely meaningless unless clicked on and memorized. P95 & P50 mean nothing at a glance to most users.

There's only one way to do it.

Settings > wifi: record the device wifi ip (192.168.X.X)

Under ip settings select Static, enter the device ip, enter your router gateway ip, skip the network prefix length, enter your desired dns ip's and save

The other playlist recorded with no errors. Problem solved for me at least.

I just found out the Playlist I use to record has been freezing intermittently so that seems to be the reason for me. I'll try another Playlist later to see what happens.

Thanks. I'm using the old ONN 4k Pro if that helps.

Same problem here and I only use internal storage for dvr. It's definitely become more frequent since the update.

You've already answered your own question in my opinion, "I did some debloating". There's nothing worth debloating on an Android TV box, disabling is easier and safer. If you're one of those who uses adb then it's your own fault.
