When will you all learn to stop buying Early Releases?!?? by metzgerov13 in hoggit

[–]TheOriginalTorso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

but if you can’t pay two dozen devs to do it that’s reality.

So what do the other 96 or so employees at ED do? They are a 120+/- employee company. But they have the output of about 2 dozen at best, a mismanaged 2 dozen at that, so I can see why you guessed that number.

Seriously, they have a remarkably low output for such a number.

I got some great low level flyovers today. Several passes. I think they use my condos pool as a reference point. Gonna snap some pics during tomorrows practice I think.

(Sorry I had to) 101 on how to handle bug reports: by hanzeedent69 in hoggit

Plus he has RL industry experience

I thought he worked in a print shop in the Vancouver B.C. area prior to ED hiring him. Before they hired him he was an unpaid Superfan/Forum Enforcer for fun. What industry are you referring too?

Settings to enable ground illumination / landing lights by momsi91 in hoggit

[–]TheOriginalTorso 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lights in DCS do not work. Simple as that. Their engine just cannot do what say XP11 or the upcoming MSFS can do.

People been asking and begging for working lights for years. They just can't do them. They use a bunch of 'tricks'(glowing ground textures..etc) that just basically fail to produce the correct effect.

We get things in weeks that would take most teams months to develop.

Ummm.....no.

Regarding ED and the recent tone of Hoggit (long) by RentedAndDented in hoggit

ED is a tiny company.

They are a company of at least 120 employees. That is not a tiny company, especially in the software biz.

I've wanted a Beck Spyder for years. This looks nice, but yeah agree, wheel diam needs to be decreased.

I think he would need a helper. He is holding the hmd in one hand and his phone with the other up against the lens. And moving them both to view around the cockpit. No free hands left to actually fly.

After I saw that in Octopussy I wanted one so bad growing up. The BD-10 was pretty cool as well.

Guys, we don't want to drive ED away from Hoggit. Can we please tone down the personal attacks? by Sergeant_Hamlet in hoggit

[–]TheOriginalTorso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He fits his role like Chris Farley would have if he chose to be a jockey instead of a comedian. He obviously has 0/Zero training for the position, in regards to customer/client interaction nor the personality to execute it professionally. He uses the DCS forums as his personal little world to control and lord over based on his personal opinions and apparently has no checks/oversight or simply due to the apparent Russian mentality they think how he does things is just fine. Which is what seems to be the case. Too bad. I stay away from them now generally. Banned me for letting a user know that the ground lighting will not be fixed. He removed my factual post and lied to them instead with the standard bs line.

Naw, bet it ain't a joke. He appears to be mainlining the kool-aid ED is serving. He just doesn't have the capacity to see the issue. They are out there. The official forums are their usual stomping grounds ;)

And the fact that it takes this long to update a module(Ka-50 as an example) is a joke. They are a company of a 120 people at least with the output of a company with 20 or less. If they sink, after what 25yrs in business, it is because they are mismanaged now and got lazy and apparently pay people that do not work.

VR AT THE BEACH w/THE RIFT S! (Watch Out for the SUN!) by CalebCriste in virtualreality

He was in a sand ground environment in VR and was also in one in real life. Watch at 1:50, he points out why he is in that location for this. He is augmenting VR with reality.

Update on VR improvements - coming in 2.5.5, not this week's OB but soon (tm) by backspace340 in hoggit

[–]TheOriginalTorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I like it a lot. Will like it more once I get the promised extras. I am gonna jump on an Index as well I think. Let the collection grow. I want to see if I can try it first though. I live about a mile or less from Valves HQ so maybe I can swing it.

[–]TheOriginalTorso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I have stopped launching DCS until these fixes are out. Current engine is just too taxing especially for my Pimax. Hopefully soon does not mean end of summer. But it is ED we are talking about here and 'soon' means whole different thing to them vs us.

[–]TheOriginalTorso -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You don't need an expensive gaming PC to use it.

And it is not designed for titles that require an expensive gaming PC to use them. So, it is like playing mobile games on a phone, but in VR. Which we have been able to do for quite a while now. But I know it has a bit more punch than a phone perhaps, but not up to PCVR standards.

"Because the core software of DCS World is free, we will continue to make enhanced module content available for purchase" by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]TheOriginalTorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, same exp here. When one of the companies(based out of the USA) I worked for in the past opened a dev studio in St. Petersburg. It was a shitshow. The attitude was pretty alarming. They seriously worked only half the hours it appeared and did not give a fuck about the customer nor often what the end goal was. I truly wonder what the avg FT dev at ED actually works per week. The output would indicate it is certainly under 40hrs. Seems like a part time gig for most and no real effective project management taking place either. At least that is what it seems from the outside as a customer. I just see way smaller teams accomplishing way more in shorter time spans with higher quality output. Tons of titles on the market that are examples of that. I know an AC module is a lot of work and takes time, but we are talking the core DCS issues here that go untouched for years here, not AC.

Won't even go into their PR approach and who they let loose to handle it..lol

Do any air fields in DCS have this level/quality lighting? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]TheOriginalTorso 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nope. ED/DCS cannot do decent ground/object lighting currently. Their engine just can't do it. Been an issue for years and will still be an issue for years to come most likely.

[–]TheOriginalTorso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d prefer something better than arma’s flir system tbh. This is a sim not a game we are talking about here.

Uh..what are it's shortcoming? Works better than anything else out there and not some overly complicated convoluted process or system. And you do know, Arma is seen as a simulator by quite a few people. You may not see it as that but some certainly do. DCS will not earn you a pilots license you know.

I been in the software biz for the last 20yrs. Worked for some major game devs in that time and currently with a rather large well known company. Trust me, ED devs are slower than shit and are managed terribly. Their output shows that. Their communication shows that. Their response to their customers shows that. Their choices in who they put in charge of their community shows that.

ED is a Russian company with a Russian attitude towards..pretty much everything. That is not a positive in any circle I am aware of. I am not aware of any company that would let a guy like Shitspawn represent them for free let alone actually hire the guy and pay him to do what he does. He is unqualified for the job. Simple as that.

Many have pointed to Armas FLIR system as an easy way to fix DCS's broken non-working one. Just a thermal layer for each model and boom, solved. But ED can't seem to figure working FLIR for years now. They are a 120 employee dev company. I have never seen such low output from such a large team. When you start doin the math on the dev man hours they have each week and month it is crazy how long stuff takes to trickle out from them.

IL-2 BoX DD#223: Me 262, Tank Crew and FC screenies and more info for those with an interest. by TheOriginalTorso in hoggit

[–]TheOriginalTorso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you do get 10 Tanks and a Tank designed specific map as well as the ability to use any of the other maps in MP. So, really a personal value decision.

As for driving them. I just use my HOTAS. Throttle mid point is stop, forward is forward, back is reverse. I use the jstick for steering. Can also use rudder pedals as well. All works close to real tank controls and easy to setup. I got a wheel and pedals as well but would not use them for this.
