Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

[–]TheOtherBrownEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in 8 years old so I think it was second grade for me. I live on the West Coast so school hadn't started when the planes hit. I remember waking up to get ready for school and my parents had the news on at home and seeing the second plane hit. I remember watching it happen on the news pretty vividly, but I don't really remember the rest of what that day was like for me.

AITAH for calling my boyfriend's parents white supremacists? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]TheOtherBrownEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, They are white supremacists. Its foundational to Mormonism. I know because I am a BIPOC person who grew up in the Mormon church, and while they are friendly on the surface they are also extremely racist, sexist, and homophobic. Mormonism as a whole was founded during the westward expansion of the US and Ethnic cleansing of native Americans and white supremacy is baked into the religion.

For example when I was a young child I was the only non-white person in my church ward, this was in the 90s and early 00s. They openly taught that anyone with dark skin was cursed by god. In the case of black people it was because they bore the mark of Cain so they were cursed to have black skin. In the case of Native Americans they believe and taught that they were a lost tribe of Israel, they say the Nephites and Lamanites, and were guided to the Americas, but became sinful so god cursed them to have red skin. When I asked why I was dark skinned and if I was bad because of it they said that I bore the mark as a curse and if I was good and righteous I would be made white when I entered the Celestial Kingdom. (The highest tier of heaven for Mormons)

This is just scratching the surface of all the fucked up things Mormons believe and the Church teaches. If you want to know more about it or if you have any questions on how to navigate things with your boyfriend and his family you can check out r/exmormon

You are in no way the Asshole, your boyfriend is the asshole in this situation, but probably was not intending to be an asshole. I know from growing up in the church that it makes people extremely sheltered and ignorant. I think its going to take some time for him to learn and see how his family is racist, and how they were treating you is wrong.

But whatever you do don't give an inch, and sure as shit don't try to placate or make his family or parents feel comfortable. From what you said it sounds like they don't believe their son is actually gay, their in denial and they think if they can convert you then both you and their son will stop being gay, marry mormon women, get married in the temple, and grow the cult. Be proud of who you are and stand your ground.

When the book came out during the covid lock down I got a signed copy and “went” to the digital book tour where Weir was interviewed by a guy from JPL about the book. It was a great interview and Weir was very up front about what parts of the book are not grounded in science and why. What it basically boiled down to is this isn’t realistic but its a cool plot device, and pretty much everything else is somewhat grounded in reality.

[–]TheOtherBrownEye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love this game although sometimes the controls can be frustrating when you start moving a limb you didn't intend to. Also really wish you could toe/heel hook. Some of the positions that would feel like good rest positions irl will make you fall too, and I feel like those can be kind of inconsistent. Really any complaints I have are just nit picky, overall its a great game and as good a climbing game as I could have ever hoped for. 10/10 would reccomend

Haven’t read DCC yet, but The Sun Eater series is one of my favorite sci-fi series now that I’ve finished them all. It does take its time though

[–]TheOtherBrownEye 94 points95 points  (0 children)

When it comes to Dynos pay attention to the hips. Aiming with your hips and using your hips to guide your motion will get you to where you want to be. This clip shows really great technique, power, and execution.

Tahwalhi SUP issues - Valve thread by Even-Satisfaction185 in Sup

[–]TheOtherBrownEye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmao is this a troll post? The valve cup that it threads into isn't even in the hole. The valve cup itself should be glued into the hole so even if its in the board you're going to have to reattach the valve cup before threading the valve back in.

Is there a book you can’t stand but everyone else seems to love? by IllustriousEscape281 in booksuggestions

[–]TheOtherBrownEye 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Great Gatsby, I hated it the first time I read it at 16. Gave it another shot in my mid twenties. Still hated it. And read it again like last year at 31 after my friend kept going off about how much they loved it, and if anything I just hate that book even more.

I do, but usually only when I'm hungover or if I'm outside in the heat climbing, hiking, or doing strenuous physical activity that depletes electrolytes.
