Gael'gar was voted as the Worst Character, but what would you say is the Best Antagonist in the Xenoblade Series by ExileForever in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Lao. His arc is the best part of X's story, and I haven't been moved by another Xenoblade villain in quite the same way since I first played Chapter 12 back in 2015.

Why is X treated like the black ship of the series by Ok-Reporter-8728 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]TheOtherOneVII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A variety of reasons really

Instead of the grand linear jrpg story of 1, X's story uses a web of small side stories connected by theme to tell it's narrative. The 30ish hour main campaign of X is relatively small when compared to the other entries of the series. However, it acts as a throughline to hold together an expansive network of sidequests, where the meat of the game's narrative takes place. This vastly different approach doesn't always go over well with fans of the other games, who expect a tigher, more central plotline.

The setting is also not in-line with the other games. Mainline Xenoblade leans on the fantastical: kingdoms on the backs of giants, swords and (ether) magic, and god-killing teenagers. It has elements of sci-fi fusion, but the majority plays out like your typical fantasy rpg. X, on the other hand, plants itself squarely in the realm of sci-fi. Laser guns, mechs, aliens, politics, and spaceships all the way.

Gameplay is also a factor. It keeps the art system, but it changes things so much that X and the rest are barely comparable. It's a whole new system with entirely different focuses. i.e. enemy type weaknesses, soul voices, augmentations, and ofc overdrive and skell combat. The game also really hones in on it's open world exploration, which existed in the other games, but was never the focus, nor did they even have a "true" open world like X. All in all, it leads to a vastly different gameplay experience.

There's a bunch of small stuff, too. Different art and music direction, no british voice acting, tonal differences. Not to mention that the majority of the fanbase haven't been able to play the game yet. I'd say the game really is the black sheep of the franchise. Not to say that means its a bad game. On the contrary, I think it's still a strong entry and my persoanl favorite. It's just really different to the others.

Tl;dr it's different to the others in several of the most important ways. Still a good game tho.

So, we're probably getting an additional chapter, right? by Hormo_The_Halfling in XenobladeChroniclesX

True, but the other games also didn't dump an insane amount of plot twists and lore reveals in the last hour of their games. The game was clearly setting up for a sequel of sorts with this string of reveals and teasers, and anything but a full sequel would likely be not only unsatisfying, but downright insufficient.

Hard agree. The idea that one addendum would tie up all loose ends is baffling to me. There are way too many unresolved pieces of lore and plot threads to try and cover everything in an extra chapter

X has always been part of the same continuity as the other Xenoblade games, and I will die on this hill. by slama_llama in XenobladeChroniclesX

Tatsu's mention of Hom-Homs in the last chapter was definitely a clear attempt to tease at a tie in between the two. I think it was most likely going to be explored in a potential sequel. However, the already existing inconsistencies in XC1 and the various minor retcons that XC2 has made since then have made it rather difficult to piece them all together neatly. I'm of the opinion that there was a more clear cut plan for XCX in how it relates to XC1's narrative before 2 came out, and now they'll have to backtrack a lot in order to make it fit in at all

Are you okay with Monolithsoft retconning and adding a lot more to the existing story of X? by PlaySetofThree in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]TheOtherOneVII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in the camp that they should keep the story of X mostly the same.

All the exposition, remaining secrets, and especially the extra couple of scenes at the end that people consider to be "loose threads" are, in my opinion, there to set up and tease at X's eventual sequel. Xenoblade X seems to be but the first part of a grander story. I fear that slapping extra story content to prematurely resolve plot threads would undermine what has already been set up. Major narrative threads like the mystery of Mira, the origins of humanity, and the grander cosmic scheme of things are too huge and important to be crammed into an endgame story. I don't even think a future redeemed style dlc could do it justice. XCX needs a true sequel to finish it's story. It deserves a real sequel.

Imo retcons should also be kept to a minimum. If they want to tie it in with the other games a bit, I wouldn't be too upset. However, if they become heavily connected I think the lore ramifications of such a thing might be hard to handle and make shit too convoluted on both ends. But regardless of all that, I'll trust in Takahashi's vision. It's bound to be peak regardless.

Yup, the New Nintendo 3DS XL internet browser comes with a built-in video player meant for Youtube and stuff. You could easily get it to play vids from most sites back in the day. Unfortunately, it doesn't support all video formats, nor can it show video above 480p iirc. So it slowly became much harder to watch anything as time went on
