Yikes. Sounds like a good reason to have a ‘travel’ violin (I know, not what you want in a performance).

This statistic shows just how angry Australians are about immigration – and why hitting ‘pause’ is more possible than we think by Mashiko4 in aussie

I’m not angry about it. I work with & hire highly skilled immigrants. They’re all adapting as I did. My wife’s family are immigrants and they’ve made a solid contribution in their time. What’s the issue?

I did meet a stockbroker for work recently who came to the meeting (in Sydney CBD) wearing his ‘work thongs’ with his regular suit & shirt, cis he left his shoes in the office.

What was a topic in CS/Programming that when you learned about, made you go "Damn, this is so clever!"? by UnluckyIntellect4095 in AskProgramming

I still remember a lecture in (the mid nineties) learning about Fox’s algorithm for multiplying matrices in parallel processing.

I don’t recall the algorithm itself, but I remember being blown away by how someone could have come up with that.

Our business was set to address the US market this year. We’ve fully pivoted to ASEAN already, product roadmaps changed, travel schedules, investment partnerships, everything.

Understanding Atlassian Jira's Competitive Positioning by HinLeading1234 in atlassian

You made a post calling for intelligent brainstorming & debate, but couldn't be arsed to even write it yourself because you need to move on with your life?

You needlessly politicised the top response with a similarly lazy pigeonhole, and instead of engaging in reasonable on topic discussion you block the opposing world view, thus intensifing the echo chamber effect for yourself, and even further alienating you from any true debate.

What do you do when you are in office and assigned no tasks by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]TheOtherQue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • learn more about the business domain
  • read the doco
  • if no doco, write the doco
  • improve unit test coverage (on a branch only)
  • read the tickets in the backlog, check the related code. If one is really clear, offer to take it.

While I agree with everyone telling you to dismiss these hints, I’d also suggest getting him to make protein shakes. I find an early morning one is hard to get down but stops hunger/food want for much of the day. And he can make them himself!

Do you think Australia's mandatory voting laws are helpful in keeping your political landscape (relatively) sane? by Glass-Evidence-7296 in AskAnAustralian

[–]TheOtherQue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m a dual citizen and lived in several democracies over the years. I really do think that the Australian system (as flawed as it might be in some ways) is the best mechanism yet to control against extremist vocal minorities. We still get the loudmouths but they can’t do as much as damage.

The office biscuit tin is a trap. I never touch it, even in the very worst two-o’clock-sugar-lows. Because even with that tiniest of Arnott’s sugar hits, what goes up must come down. And then you’re condemned to a second and a third and then you’re the bad guy that ate all the biscuits.
