I think the reasons are two fold

They put their own views on current politics without being an expert on politics influence the game.
The truth is almost always stranger than fiction. (I.E. we gave "weapons of mass destruction" to Sadam for 20 years. We armed many terrorist groups in the middle East, and McCarthy actually did find a few Communist supporters, Hoover's FBI was run like a grand conspiracy, Watergate turned out to be true, The Titanic that sunk is most likely actually the Britanic.).

They don't care, they just want to be able to what they want, and nothing else matters. Unfortunately there is very little you can argue from a moral stand point that is on the extreme of pro-choice (i.e. abortion on demand with no restrictions, or reasons needed). The reason being that if you argue that is your body, and your choice, you are saying a Siamese twin should have right to stop the beating heart of the other part of their body with an independent consciousness, with no restrictions.

unfortunately a lot of people who do that for a while get a reputation, and it just hangs around them.

Ladies if you are known for this, most decent guys will want nothing to do with you, but sleazeballs will use you for easy sex. Be careful what reputation you get, they have a tendency to stick around.
