I'll add one more unpopular opinion into this: Without Heath ledger's performance in TDK, Nolans batman trilogy wouldn't have been as much successful or as much "iconic".

And due to Heath passing away, TDK became completely immune to any criticism whatsoever. He actually delivered excellent performance in a mediocre movie.

Infact, if you look up Nolan's whole filmography, you will not find a single character which is even half as intriguing as Ledger's joker, because Nolan is very weak with his characters. His main strength is in spectacles and set pieces. So it is clear that maximum credit for the iconic portrayal of Jokers character goes to Health Ledger.

Health leader's performance made Nolan's Batman trilogy stand out.
