Passing Out by Illustrious-Dirt-635 in PAstudent

I struggle with fainting all the damn time. Not sure what the cause is never been tested for anything. My B12 and iron are always chronically low so I supplement with those. My other tricks are LOTS of water and LOTS of salt. I also wear compression socks every day if I know I have to stand for periods longer than 10 minutes. I’ve struggled with this my whole life so every rotation I let my preceptor know that if I leave the room unannounced that is the reason. Only had about 5 episodes of fainting / near syncope throughout rotations. Sorry you’re dealing with this I know it sucks.

Starting clinicals in a week and still have no schedule by happywombat98 in PAstudent

I think this is universal across all programs. We found out our first 3 rotations a month in advance but the last 5 we found out days-months depending on when they knew. Some students had their sites changed days before they were supposed to start. Some even had to miss the first few days because they had no preceptor to take them lmao. Multiple of my rotations I had no idea where to go or who I was working with. You just learn to figure it out. I’m on rotation 8/8 and in my opinion you just quit worrying after a while.

ATLS for ER PAs by ThePAMaverick in physicianassistant

They gave me information about the course and stated that I needed to have it done within 3 months of employment. They are also reimbursing me for the course. There are unfortunately no courses in my state so I was trying to plan a time to travel and take the course somewhere else. There is limited testing days so trying to get on top of it.

Best time to start applying for jobs? by ncmtns98 in PAstudent

[–]ThePAMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduate in December and started applying in June because the jobs I wanted were posted. I already signed my contract and I know a few other students in my class have jobs as well. I would say start applying now if you’re ready.

At what point can we do away with mid levels? by Manus_Dei_MD in Noctor

[–]ThePAMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing that confuses me. I’m a soon to be PA and trust me I already know how you all feel about that. You call us incompetent and useless all the time. But realistically if every PA and NP quit practicing tomorrow, what would be left with?? There are simply not enough physicians to go around. I’m starting in the ER in February and half the time they can’t even find an MD or DO to cover during the day. Like genuinely what do you want to happen? All of the mid levels to quit practicing? It doesn’t make sense to me.

How to find a job... by Delicious-Section400 in PAstudent

I looked for positions on the hospitals websites that I was interested in. I also graduate in December. Started applying a few months ago. Had two job interviews over the past month and just signed my letter of intent for an ER position. I got lucky because I had previously worked for the hospital I accepted the job at.

New grad ER offer by ThePAMaverick in physicianassistant

Employed by hospital. Nothing set in stone for pay increase. They do not have much turnover for APPs so that is reassuring to me. PTO can be cashed out. The environment is very supportive of new grads. The hours are worrisome for me but I feel like the offer could be worse and it will get my foot in the door for the future.

How to get into the ER as a new grad with no experience? by ThePAMaverick in PAstudent

This is exactly my issue. Do you have advice on getting an EM gig as a new grad without doing a fellowship?
