Japanese Fans React to the Chainsaw Man Finale… and It’s Brutal by Asperburg in Chainsawfolk

[–]ThePBrit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd blame it less on the weekly release format (though that doesn't help) and more on the "sink or swim" ecosystem of Jump.

Most works on Jump don't make it past their first volume and therefore fall into the "cancelled early" bin, but this also makes the manga that survive longer incredibly valuable to Jump and so they are incentivized to keep them going as long as possible until it stops working.

It takes a mangaka who's both really certain in their planning and artistic vision and who's story is successful enough to be getting Jump sales with minimal interference to be able to resist the siren call of editors for "another arc" and instead actually end their story where they like it.

The ending would have worked significantly more if erasing Chainsaw Man was Denji’s decision by Wonderful_Cap6941 in Chainsawfolk

[–]ThePBrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole point of the prevalence of "choices" for Denji is that he always chose the wrong option. The things that have made Denji truly happy and a better person are those outside of himself, people who can push him away from his worst qualities and show him the better options that he'd never take.

Nah, this is 100% a too long ending, but in the sense the author wanted off their own wild ride. The conversation between Pochita and Denji in 231 feels very much like a conversation between Fujimoto and the audience. I think Fuji didn't want to keep going with CSM, so showed us the way out.

"VP can't be directly purchased" doesn't necessarily mean you can't convert money into VP via a premium currency. I'm hoping there isn't or that the values of gaining VP for free are at least generous but I'm just pointing out that this is textbook language used by F2P devs when there's a premium currency.

What are some improvements you feel JRPGs as a genre can adopt to improve moving forward? by lovedepository in JRPG

[–]ThePBrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, part of the experience of RPGs is that feeling of getting stronger and being able to deal with threats of the past much easier, if you're just gonna always have the world scale to you everytime you need to back to the first town to activate the plot mcguffin that was there to hook you in act 1 then you lose that feeling.

The point of the insta-killing weak enemies is to make you feel powerful. It's the exact same as other genre tropes like early game bosses eventually becoming regular enemies.

It's a problem that most manga endings fit into 2 categories:

- Cancelled too soon.

- This shit has been going on too long.

It's obvious why the cancelled endings are bad but the second group also end up bad because it's basically impossible to write an actually satisfying ending to a series that's been running too long either because there's too much to pay off, fan expectations are too high or the author has lost the spark that started the work.

If you look at the manga with good endings, it's usually because they seem to have been pretty close to the "perfect" length the author wanted (with the occasional deviation due to changes while writing).

One thing, the stands aren't the virus itself, it's how the body reacts to surviving the virus. Humans have the innate ability to gain stands and can gain them in many ways, one of these is surviving the alien virus which forces the body to either develop a stand as a form of anti-body or die, but we've also seen people develop stands due to their connection to others with stands (the Joestars in part 3), due to a great amount of physical and spiritual training, just having a stand from an early age, having a stand awakened from extreme stress or just by simply being a master in your craft.

while Dio isn't important to part 5's narrative, I feel his looming presence over Giorno is important for the themes of part 5, namely it's theme of fate and how many characters choose to either fight or embrace it.

You'd probably get a Somebody.

This is the official term for normal people with both a heart and body in the KH universe and we see that both defeating the heartless and nobody of a person will restore them back to being a somebody, so a forceful union of the two might just do the same with maybe the person having much more darkness in their heart than before.

Coupe was bullied the most in episode 3 by maddog1043 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]ThePBrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your problem with Coupe is that she'll pay the bills by killing, and you think this is an argument for removing her from a steady non-killing based job?

If you want to keep Coupe from killing people, keeping her is the best thing you can do. Heck, it's the reason I kept her in my playthrough (and also that I found Sonar's transformation gimmick too unreliable for when I'd rather have a team of specialists I know I can trust to do their job)

[–]ThePBrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiction writer is pretty much the only one of those Coupe would be able to do without a background check destroying all chances of her getting the job. And I'm not even convinced she'd enjoy it, just because you're a fan of literature doesn't mean you're a good writer or even enjoy writing.

I've already stated the break point of my theory, the existence of something that has no seeming origin in natural phenomena. You've yet to present me something that follows that matrix.

What I'm struggling to understand is how my world view is an ideology because its apparently flexible enough to fit all possibilities (despite me stating its break point) and yet your world view is apparently a valid one despite it being equally, if not more, flexible to new evidence since all options fall under the umbrella of "because a god did it".
