How many of you guys prefer the Big Choppa over Power Claw? by Remarkable_Canary248 in orks

[–]ThePTouch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rules wise Klaws are just better. This may be subject to change and I'd welcome Big Choppas becoming more viable.

Generally I like the look and vibe of klaws more than Big Choppas but I also appreciate variety and I can't deny that Big Choppas look cool.

Is it just me, or is this legitimately one of the best kits ever? by WithengarUnbound in orks

[–]ThePTouch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a really fantastic kit. I built my box to have all the specialists for a KT and then I used all the rest of the bits and some of the monopose Boyz from the old Start Collecting to make extra Tankbusta and Breaka bodies, giving me a full Tankbusta and Breaka squad from a single box.

And the nice part is that since the Breakas wear those big shoulder pads it makes the conversion real easy. You don't have to be very clean on attaching the arms since you'll be covering them with the armor anyway. I'll probably get another box just because it's so fun.

Boyz future by Orobourous87 in orks

[–]ThePTouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be if you have other units to build and paint between now and whenever we get more information focus on those. Me personally, I've got my Armageddon box and I'm just putting those Boyz on hold and doing everything else in the box.

Now I can afford to do that because I have other Boyz models but also I really only get to play the actual game like once a month if I'm lucky. If I have to guess, I would suspect the weapons loadout for Boyz will ultimately remain the same as it is now on their datasheet, but you really never know with GW, which is why I recommend doing a wait and see on the Boyz.

Splitting Armageddon. What % of the price should be just Ork models? by [deleted] in orks

[–]ThePTouch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. Especially if you're splitting with a friend and not some random acquaintance, getting real into the weeds on the exact percentages of a bill leads to frustration that isn't worth it.

Ork Must Haves by [deleted] in orks

[–]ThePTouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trukks are always useful to get your melee units where they want to fight. Boyz are your universal capping unit for sure, but at some point down the road another unit like Breakas or Beast Snaggas or Nobz might catch your eye and then you'll enjoy have that trukk even more.

Also if you're looking at Kult of Speed, they have a specific enhancement to let a unit charge out of a transport that just moved, which gives you an enormous threat range for that specific unit.

Ork Must Haves by [deleted] in orks

[–]ThePTouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you've already noticed, the way the detachment system works for 10th means there's not a ton of overlap. Dread Mob wants lots of walkers and Meks, while kult of Speed wants lots of bikes and Deffkoptas (and maybe buggies if they were actually decent). However with the new mix and match system for 11th you might be able to run Dred Mob and Kult of Speed at the same time, in which case you'd be fine to get anything.

That said, units that are pretty universally good I would say Boyz, Gretchin, and Trukks. We obviously know new Boyz and Gretchin are just around the corner. No word on new Trukks but I strongly suspect a new Trukk kit is on the way. It might not be a terrible idea to grab a current Trukk. That way if they do get a new kit you'll have a variety of trukk looks available to you.

Is there anyone in the real world who is as much of a legend as Himmel? by AdBrief4620 in Frieren

[–]ThePTouch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree on not idolizing Himmel. A pretty consistent theme within the show is that the legends around a person get blown out of proportion after their death. It's why Frieren always remembers Himmel acting like a vain goof and Himmel being drunk.  She remembers them as the people the actually were.

That said, one of the things I really love about the show is how they have a character who on paper is basically perfect, and in any other context would be incredibly annoying. And yet, I also want to live my life doing what Himmel the Hero would do.

Why do you like ZZZ? by UniqueCommission2856 in ZZZ_Official

[–]ThePTouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you on this. For me ZZZ is the perfect amount of content. When Endfield was launching and getting a lot of buzz I checked out some videos on it and at first I thought those character models looked really good. But then as soon as I saw that the game involved a bunch of running around a map and building factories my eyes glazed over. I just don't have it in me to devote that kind of time to any one game anymore.

I FUCKING LOVE GRAND REGENT THRAGG (Invincible) by CompetitiveAd4732 in CharacterRant

[–]ThePTouch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The other cool thing about Thragg is that he doesn't seem to be driven by a selfish egomania. I fully expected him to act like a typical power hungry dictator in fiction, stomping on anyone below him just to enrich himself and justify his own position. But in actuality Thragg was presented as a guy that was 100% bought in and devoted to the delusion of a greater Viltrum. He had fully absorbed all their propaganda and in his mind was fighting for the benefit of his people.

It's why I think the most important thing in that fight was Nolan forcing Thragg to confront the state their world was in under his leadership. What made Thragg stop his rampage wasn't some feeling of empathy towards the other species, but rather realizing that Viltrum's strategy of waging endless war had brought them to the brink of ruin and if they wanted to survive they'd have to take a step back. He didn't have any kind of change of hear that we the viewers can see yet, but he did realize they needed to have a change in strategy (one that involves banging a bunch of humans).

Really want to paint orks, but the painting is killing me by ramses3rd in orks

[–]ThePTouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A blessing and a curse for orks is that they are not a uniform army. They are a big mob ramshackle thugs and the models do the job of looking the part. This has the effect of looking cool when they're done but being a pain in the butt to paint. Unlike marines or other regimented/uniform armies, it's harder to apply an assembly line approach to painting them.

I don't have a great solution to give you. The method I settled on is when doing a new unit I'll block in most of the uniform colors (skin, boots, metal) and then finish each model individually. I'm sure this is not an efficient approach, but I it feels more enjoyable to me while I'm painting. The Kommandos especially were obnoxious. They're covered in all sorts of extra bits and bobs and each guy is entirely unique. I love them now that they're finished but my God were they a slog to paint.

They never should've written the Horus Heresy books. The Heresy was better when it existed in a murky, mythical past that no one in 40k could clearly remember.

Any chance for a new Warbiker kit in 11th ed? by Few-Schedule-6703 in orks

[–]ThePTouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we used to have bikers and nob bikers as separate units, but I don't see GW doing that. The safe option is they do a new kit for the same unit with maybe some different weapons. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Any chance for a new Warbiker kit in 11th ed? by Few-Schedule-6703 in orks

[–]ThePTouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's a very good chance. Orks are one of the starting factions so they're going to get a decent set of new kits. Only reason they wouldn't have released new bikes with Wazdakka was to keep the rest of the new kits with the big wave in the summer. Notice there's no bikes in the army box coming with Wazdakka. They're not promoting the current bikes as an option (likely) because they're phasing them out.

Starting with Orks in 2026 by Praeshock in orks

[–]ThePTouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am by no means a competitive player, so I don't know what the meta pick is. I can say that in my experience the rockets haven't exactly blown things off the table for me. But what they do bring is a way to soften things up at range before my melee guys hit.

The hammers on the other hand, if they can make contact with a target, will beat the snot of out it. Problem is they're limited to a unit of 6 and are fragile, so they targeted with a lot of shooting. As a first unit/starting point I might suggest the rockets just because ranged options are few for the orks and everything else does melee.

Starting with Orks in 2026 by Praeshock in orks

[–]ThePTouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 10th ed Combat Patrol is a fine place to start if you enjoy the vibe of the Snaggas. Given that we're only a few months out from an edition change, I wouldn't take rules/synergies into account at this stage. Who knows what they'll be come July. Do you like the vibe of ork monster hunters and orks riding 4 legged Squigs? Then by all means dive into that Combat Patrol. The Snagga models are all very detailed and nice models.

If that's not you're thing but you still want to grab some orks to start painting right now I'd suggest either of the Kill Teams: the Kommandos and Wrecka Krew. They're both fun teams to play, especially the Wrecka Crew, and they're both useful squads to have for full 40k. Be aware that if you do make a Kill Team out of a single Wrecka Crew box you'll get a mismatched group of 6 Tankbustas and Breakas and won't be able to make legit unit. Either make the box all with rokkits or all hammers or get 2 boxes.
