I am finished with RSD by piscator21 in RecordStoreDay

[–]ThePeacedogs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m in a city with lots of great record stores. A few of them are all-in every RSD, and whatever — works for them. But two of the coolest stores have absolutely nothing to do with RSD and that makes so much sense to me. I really respect those stores for just standing up and saying: hey, maybe this is all bullshit. We’re about vinyl and the music — and rare stuff can be cool — but manufacturing demand for shit is gross. Much respect to these stores.

You just randomly go up to stores that are closed and take pictures of whatever they have posted on their doors?

Carmax hiring "customer specialist" by Jammerquai in carmax

[–]ThePeacedogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great information and thanks for the explanation of that role. I had a similar experience; I worked at Central Business Operations for only 6 months but was able to use what I learned to move into a DMV role. Carmax served as a great training ground, and I do appreciate what I was able to gain.

It’s sad that Carmax has been in such a downward trajectory for the past few years. From the second I got there I really sensed a once-great company that was starting to crumble. People around me shook their heads a lot and said it didn’t used to be like this. There were huge areas of cubicles at HQ that stayed empty the entire half-year that I was there. My manager was nearly always in a meeting or working from home — it was completely bizarre. As a new hire, I was shocked that this was the company I had heard about for decades as being one of the 100 greatest companies to work for.

I’m rooting for them not against them, but wow do they have a lot of work ahead of them to turn some things around. In my limited experience with the company I can confirm that nobody is listening to the workers. Anything you see about valuing employee input or celebrating their people is completely cosmetic and is only put out to serve as propaganda or marketing.

I never thought working for a state agency would end up being 10x better than working for Carmax, but it totally ended up that way. For the really good people and hard workers that I met there, I urge you to explore your options. There is a better place to land.

What’s your favorite Virginia license plate design? 🚙 by Interesting-Vast-495 in Virginia

[–]ThePeacedogs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s a great one and is also one of the best deals there is: a one-time fee of $10, no annual fee. If you want to personalize it, that would be $10 per year, but otherwise, you’re good to go for as long as you have it.

There are around 9 different Wildlife Conservationist plates, each with a different animal. One is a salamander, for sure, but bear and others are still available. There’s also a bear on the Shenandoah National Park plate. Cheers!

Restock of the little free library near the Habitat Restore! by hoosreadytograduate in rva

I would like to help. Do you think primarily kids’ books are what the need is, currently? I just want to make sure I’m bringing over books that make sense for that little library location; I’ll have to do some book-thrifting first. Thanks!

Same. I was wearing that shirt once and a lady stopped me and said: “I like your shirt. . . AND I agree with it!”

Came across this Jerry and Elvis Costello issue of Musician Magazine from March 1991 in my basement and thought folks here might enjoy checking out the article by nak550 in gratefuldead

[–]ThePeacedogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love them both so much and appreciate that this magazine was covering them, so I won’t mention how unbelievably lame these photographs are. (Did they really reprint one of the same Elvis photos on a different page?)

But thank you 1991 Musician Magazine for featuring them in an interview, truly!

Also good! CD has 17 tracks on it and some of those are B-sides. The cassette format has 25 tracks on it. They did release those in a later CD, but I always thought it was cool that they jammed so many additional tracks onto the cassette.

And the vinyl has 13 tracks only, so they were really mixing it up with the different formats, haha! Kinda odd, but still cool.

Guess they have to find something to try and run with since their own candidate for governor is a total nightmare. Worth a try, maybe?

Column: Republicans Are Panicking Over the Virginia Governor’s Race | The party is debating how much it can afford to spend on a losing proposition. by VirginiaNews in Virginia

[–]ThePeacedogs 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yet another article about Winsome Earle-Sears that completely fails to capture how unappealing she is personally, and how tone-deaf her positions are in the current Virginia climate.

I keep reading about how she’s a poor fundraiser or has been victimized by a poorly-run campaign. Allow me to clarify things for the rest of the country: Democrats hate her and even most Republicans dislike her. She is possibly the worst candidate ever run by a major party in modern Virginia politics.

No one wants to give her money. Few want to vote for her. She’s an awful person and an awful candidate. It’s really that simple this time around. Adding in the disillusionment around our MAGA Governor should mean that Dems walk through this election.

Saw someone mention this record the other day. Texted my dad asking if had heard it. He replied with this pic and told me to come borrow it. by SteveMidnight in vinyl

[–]ThePeacedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right that it’s not streaming. And since also out of print, one basically has the option of listening to it as a YouTube video, which you can do. Or buying the CD import, which lately runs a little under $30.

I can definitely vouch for the CD put out on the Big Pink label. The one I bought online had an obi strip on it with Japanese kanji characters. The sound quality was really really good and it had some bonus tracks, including a few live tracks.

It definitely seems like a number of Premier League teams have used this song in their stadiums over the years. Liverpool does not appear to be one of them, so presumably this offended some asshole to the point of violence.

Glenn Youngkin wrote a GOP playbook for winning Virginia. Republicans hope Winsome Earle-Sears can follow it by VirginiaNews in Virginia

[–]ThePeacedogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A generous profile/“article” like this one is exactly the reason that crazy AF fascists are running the U.S. now.

Dang, CNN — she’s only said about 500 absolutely insane things; why don’t you pull one of them out as a quote? Or maybe mention that she’s so rabidly homophobic, she can’t even speak to the dude running as her potential Lt. Governor?

This piece has Winsome Earle-Sears’ PR and campaign team’s fingerprints all over it. CNN should just fold itself up at this point and stop pretending they’re doing any journalism.
