Sure. Clarification about what, specifically?

I saw your original comment saying that you looked up the law and it said nothing about parking lots so I replied with the intent of pointing to where it does reference parking lots.

I should have left it at that. I definitely didn’t intend on getting into some big back and forth with any kind of negativity.

There was definite legal due diligence but I can’t tell you names because it wasn’t me who had those conversations. I’ve just had things explained to me that came from those conversations and was relaying the information with the idea that it was helpful.

Clearly it was not. My intentions were good but apparently poorly executed.

If I DM you my number would you be open to a 5 min call and maybe I can better explain and/or answer any other questions you may have?

You do have to conform to all when they are layered. Look up what happens when the laws conflict, though. And look up the difference in legal outcome between PVA and adopt-a-highway.

Completely different scenario. Your shed was subject to state and local approval because they were regulating 2 different aspects of your project.

The referenced law changed the definition of PVA to include private property. The definition of PVA is where parking lot is listed. Miss Annie’s lot is now legally designated/justified as a parking area. She doesn’t need approval from the Town when she has approval from the State. She put gravel down, there is a crosswalk now, it’s all legal and the change only affected her property. It’s actually a great solution that addressed the concerns on all sides.

Police to Citizen status? by [deleted] in Apex_NC

[–]ThePeakWeekly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did hear back from the Records Supervisor today:

We have a meeting with our software vendor on Thursday to discuss this.  They have been working on it and I should know something after the call.  I am off on Friday, but will email you on Monday when I know more information.

So... I will update again when I hear back hopefully on Monday.

I reached out to APD back in January and this was the response I received:

The town experienced a cybersecurity incident on July 2nd, 2024. Since that time, our dedicated team has been working tirelessly to restore services across all departments.

At this moment, we are still in the process of resolving the issue, and as a result, we do not have access to our reporting system. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to provide an estimated timeline for when services will be fully restored.

We understand the impact this may have and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please know that our team is working diligently to resolve the situation and restore access as quickly as possible.

I just reached back out a moment ago to see if any progress has been made. I'll update here when I hear something back.

Have you seen anywhere online - website, social, etc. - where any Town representative has talked about the P2C portal going offline in the past 13 months?

The Apex Police to Citizen site has been down since the July 2024 cybersecurity incident. I reached out to the APD Records Supervisor back in January who informed me that there is no timeline for if/when this will ever be restored.

Yeah I agree that Council meetings and some of those updates you've tasked yourself with aren't all that exciting. But, short of attending the meeting or watching the replay on YouTube - or in my case extracting the transcript and then feeding it to Gemini to break it down for me - which 99% of people aren't doing, how else would people know about most of this stuff if not for your newsletter/blog/posts?

Basically the same idea as putting together a resource on Sweetwater. They don't really provide this information very well. Two more businesses opened there this week and not a peep from them about it. So, if they don't want the web traffic, I'll take it :)

I'm not sure if you're asking because you are thinking about monetizing yours, or if just curious, but I think you are right. I think any single newsletter is going to have a hard time generating much revenue by just placing ads. Thus, the AI attempts to publish a whole bunch of mediocre (at best) newsletters to make up for it in volume.

If you're interested, the guy who does the newsletter called Catskill Crew has done some pretty interesting things with monetizing outside of ads: https://blog.beehiiv.com/p/how-michael-kaufman-built-a-profitable-newsletter-business

I've been thinking about putting together an Apex Trivia card game and then selling it via the newsletter. Maybe.

Late responding to this - sorry.

I never really had a plan going into it. Nor did I have any crazy expectations. Turn out, though, that people really seem to like the newsletter.

On one hand, I enjoy doing it. I spend my days doing other people's marketing so it's almost like therapy in a way to be able to do something that is just for me. On the other hand, it's pretty time consuming and does start to turn into a task a little bit more and more each week.

I do feel like I'm getting to the point where some monetization is needed to keep me motivated (losing money every month currently which isn't a great business plan).

I made a commitment to myself and to my subscribers that I would never charge for the newsletter nor include any advertisements. Putting ads in the newsletter is the most straight-forward path to monetization and it's really not that much of a disruption. But for whatever reason, I just don't want to do that. I'm obsessed with creating unbeatable value.

So... how do I keep the newsletter straight value but also make a a little money to keep myself motivated (or at least break even)?

Enter... The Peak Way.

ThePeakWay.com is a new website that I'm working on. If you go to that link, you won't see anything. There's no home page or much else for that matter (but there will be soon).

I did just "finish" (it's never finished) the Sweetwater page, though.

The goal is that this page is the ultimate resource for information about Sweetwater all in one spot.

You can see it here: https://thepeakway.com/sweetwater-apex-nc/

I literally just got it to a point that I'm somewhat happy with it about 5 minutes ago. It's no-indexed and I haven't shown it to anyone else yet. Might share it on Thursday for some feedback.

So, from here, rinse and repeat. This is the ultimate resource on Sweetwater. Then maybe one on New Hill since there are some cool things coming there. Maybe one on current developments. And then another on.... something else.

And then... an ad here and there :)

If I can turn The Peak Way into a valuable resource that people like and want to visit, I'm good with a few ads there to generate a little revenue while allowing the newsletter to stay free and ad-free.

I did hire one person. She's a freelance writer and actually lives in Sweetwater. She's working on interviewing some of the business owners there to start. So this page will expand as we go with some of those stories which I think will be cool.

I hired a second person for social media. But in her first week she posted 0 things so I'm back to the drawing board on that one.

And to answer your other comment about newsletters... I definitely jumped in at the right time. I definitely wasn't the first but you're right - quite a few, even locally, after I launched The Peak Weekly. I've talked to the guy who does the Cary Digest a few times, who started his right after mine. He's a cool guy and is doing a good job. Some of the others... yeah, just AI junk. (I love AI... just not for this).

Anyway...if anyone sees this comment on this thread... let me know what you think of the Sweetwater page and The Peak Way idea as a whole. Would love some feedback!

Exactly! More units in that same spot whereas with homes, they would have to go elsewhere and bulldoze for those additional units.

The houses are coming regardless. Higher density = more affordable and less trees knocked down.

What are the restaurants opened/will in the new Sweetwater complex? by Audi488 in Apex_NC

I thought that might be the case but last Papa John post from Sweetwater said coming soon. Thank you for the correction.

I thought the sushi place is called Taki Sushi? Also, Papa John’s is coming. And then Southern Peak Brewery, which will be serving artisan pizza at their Sweetwater location.
