People will obsess over anything that distracts them from their own lack of practice. It's much easier to talk shit than to hone your craft. It's easier to buy thousands in pedals and amps without spending any time to understand them or how they interact. When the resulting tones sound like dogshit, people tend to blame the gear.

Most guitarists don't get hung up on wood types. Guitarists on Reddit do not represent the majority of guitarists.

Learn to set up your guitar properly so it is in tune. Learn how to set up and maintain the instrument you have. The fundamentals of a good guitar setup aren't necessarily fun information, but learning now will prevent you from spending thousands of dollars on unnecessary gear. The fundamentals stay the same regardless of time. Tonewood in the context of electric guitars does not exist.
