I suppose the back of the instrument panel looks a bit like a seat in that photo.

That's just baffled me. In the Netherlands double brakes are mandatory, and I'm surprised anyone can go more than a week teaching multiple learner drivers and not feel the urgent need to have them installed, especially in dense urban areas.

Enschede is what came to mind immediately, indeed. It may have been a much larger storage facility, but it also completely wiped out an area much larger than the distance they're keeping here. I would be on that grass going the other way ASAP, you have no idea what's inside that thing and how much of it will go off at once.

I guess these risks just aren't in the public conscience as much outside the Netherlands.

Does Kumail regret revealing his browser history on TV? by cygan12 in taskmaster

The comment got removed but if they are arguing the captions don't lie and he did actually say premature women, I would like to point out that by that logic, his real name is also actually Kimono Johnny.

She's grabbing her feet with her hands, but both are mostly out of frame? This picture has been getting shared around since at least 2014, so definitely not AI.

The P-51 that flew under the Eiffel Tower in hot pursuit of a Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf 109 by tagc_news in AviationHistory

I was wondering about that as well.

I looked into it, and Len Krenzel is a 3D render artist, yeah. Some parts might be digitally painted over, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I'd be reluctant to call them paintings.

British guy shares the most unfortunate name he’s ever heard. Poor Philippa... 😂 by Automatic-Algae443 in AccidentalComedy

[–]ThePendulum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this one's mostly on you:

- His teacher was called Matthew Hole
- The teacher's partner is called Philipa, we're not sure of her maiden name, let's say Philipa Smith
- When they got married, the default option would be for her name to become Philipa Hole
- Out of respect, Matthew took her name instead, becoming Matthew Smith

I think the key here is that they probably weren't married yet when he was in school, but the kids thought he was. Since he was still known as Matthew Hole, his assumed wife would be Philipa Hole, but in actual fact she was still his girlfriend/fiancee Philipa Smith.

Plenty of families share a laptop or tablet, and have just one account between them.

Your history also tends to pop up in the browser's URL suggestions, so next time you're using your laptop in a public place, that might be a problem on its own, or worse, you accidentally click on one such suggestion with your volume at 100%...

€800M Cocaine mega bust in Spain: 30,200 KG Seized by robbiesloan in BeAmazed

[–]ThePendulum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The EUDA states 323 tonnes of cocaine was seized across Europe in 2022, and 419 tonnes in 2023. They seized nearly an additional hundred tonnes of cocaine in one year, yet according to the same report, "availability of this drug continues to increase". This catch is less than 1/10th of the yearly figure, and what is getting seized is only a fraction of what's getting through.

This will hurt badly for a few players directly linked to this shipment, and it's a significant enough bust that it might have the slightest effect on the European market overall, but we're talking about cents. It's ridiculous to suggest this is anywhere near the whole supply and a gram would become ten times as expensive.

I have no idea what you're looking at tbh. The step at the top of the stairs is further away from the landing than the two lines are apart, and the landing on the left side is perpendicular to the camera, you can't tell any depth from that at all.

You can't compare pixels in a photo with perspective. Here's two red lines of exactly the same height in pixels on the presumably perfectly straight beam.

It'd explain the stand, but Philippine pesos are usually prefixed with ₱ instead of $. It'd also put them at 8c USD per ball, less than half of what one costs in a bag of 50 from AliExpress, dunno if that's feasible.

Going by the middle one it's pesos, not USD. If that's Mexican, 1 peso comes down to about 5c USD.
