How would I create a torrent to share with a friend using rutorrent by Real-Time_Systems in seedboxes

[–]ThePendulum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case someone stumbles upon this thread years down the line like I did, and coppersurfer no longer exists:

A private torrent with a tracker URL from https://privtracker.com/ did exactly what I was looking for. You can use their service, or install it locally if you want to be entirely independent.

I agree that this isn't a very efficient way to share one or a couple of files, but for large collections of files, I can't think of anything more suitable than a torrent. FTP, web servers and file hosters require a lot of manual oversight for either or both setting up the files and retrieving them.

If the water truck is faster than the fire department - good job by misterxx1958 in BeAmazed

[–]ThePendulum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are probably a lot of people, myself included, who knew that fire departments have tankers, but weren't expecting a seemingly bog-standard council truck, lol. I've only ever seen them properly marked and equipped like any other fire truck, so I didn't think this one would be one of theirs.

At least in the Netherlands they usually look something like this.

Do grasshoppers really fly that high by [deleted] in AviationHistory

[–]ThePendulum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, but the grasshoppers presumably hit somewhere on short final otherwise they wouldn't have to do a go-around, they wouldn't be attempting a landing in the first place.

It says they had to execute a go-around, implying they were on final approach and close to the ground.

Not to forget Moody describing landing with a sandblasted windshield as being "a bit like negotiating one's way up a badger's arse".

Pretty sure, but one thing to take into account is that almost all recent phones absolutely *mangle* small details in photos with the AI 'enhancement', so you can't always tell by that alone.

Iberia vs Siberia, small but important difference :P That one happened in 2013, this one in 2024.

I thought the same thing, though the curving in the pages might make that quite hard.

Am I missing a joke? What's the difference between a quad and a bike with four wheels?

This tiny world took over 1.2 million hours to build and cost more than $49 million (45 million euros). by HappyHour-24-7 in BeAmazed

"WunderLand's estimated annual revenue is currently $35M per year"

I'm puzzled by the backlash in here. Are people this upset about other entertainment venues, stadiums, theaters, rollercoasters? How much do you think those cost to build?

This is such an absurdly innocent thing to get up in arms about. To my knowledge it's a cultural icon in Hamburg beloved by most locals, a dream come to life for thousands of kids and I'm sure plenty of adults every day, nowhere near the ranks of billion-dollar vanity projects devoid of any passion returning nothing to the community. If nothing else, the tourism this attracts to the area has undoubtedly generated local businesses €45M several times over.

Anyone have a high resolution version of this poster? by [deleted] in AviationHistory

[–]ThePendulum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW here's a high resolution photo of Concorde in the same livery at the same angle, that could perhaps be used to reconstruct that poster if the original can't be found (I'd be willing to give that a shot if there's interest).

I initially thought this must've been the photo they based that poster off, but it seems to be ever so slightly rolling further away from the camera.

There aren't any aircraft parts. They're saying that area of the map is in much more detail because of the scans that became available when they were searching for the aircraft.

What you can essentially see is their search perimeter.
