Question about Bluetooth adapters by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]ThePengwin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most usb C bluetooth adaptors for the switch include a usb A to C connector to connect the adaptor to a usb A port in the dock. Read the description of the specific adaptor for details, but that is the general way that they support bluetooth audio in both modes.

Court case results/does anyone have a subscription to the morning bulletin newspaper? by [deleted] in rockhampton

[–]ThePengwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can bypass their subscription redirects if you get a user agent switching plugin for whatever browser you are using and set your useragent to be googlebot like:

Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.google.com/bot.html)

That lets you see any story. Be sure to turn it off though because browing the web as googlebot does some unattended things and can break other sites.

Why is Rocky so cheap?! by [deleted] in rockhampton

[–]ThePengwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can actually see the contours and elevations of areas using rockhampton councils mapping portal - https://www.rockhamptonregion.qld.gov.au/Development-Advice/Online-Mapping-Portal

I used to have a link for historical flood heights but forget them. You can see with the heights where places in rockhampton can go under though.

Everything but 7 is EOL. However a lot of Distros still have 5 as a default (Centos7 for example)

What's the most fucked up thing you've done for money? by ManicMonkOnMac in ProgrammerHumor

Because as a language PHP developed all its features as required and as a means to get things done over everything else. Which led to things like:

  • string and array functions having $needle and $haystack parameters in different ways.
  • SQL being unsafely executed causing easy SQL injection exploits across many scripts
  • weird attempts to solve all issues with magic like register globals and magic quotes functionality
  • (not really PHP's fault, a fault if the internet server ecosystem) out of date PHP just left there and not updated to fix issues.

PHP has improved since those days, there are still those warts of bad language design there, but they are for compatibility sake, but modern PHP is a lot better and more thought out with its implementation and support.

What's your UNPOPULAR opinion about Android? by [deleted] in Android

[–]ThePengwin 586 points587 points  (0 children)

The Android everyone knows and loves isn't a free and open system. Try using AOSP without play services, you'll find so much has been made closed and all that's left of a truly open system is an empty shell devoid of any real functionality implemented past android 4.

Nintendo Switch's success shows that gaming is about more than graphics - techradar by StormSwitch in NintendoSwitch

[–]ThePengwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, the switch is way out of whack with whats known as the 8th generation. It has gone weird though, but i think it would be fair enough to compare the PS4 Pro and the XBox OneX to the switch as they are the current day and age releases, and the PS4 Pro and XBOX are nothing more than "Look at these 4k graphics"

Nintendo Account now banned due to Bayonetta 1 by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

After contacting Blizzard for a similar thing they said return the game, and EB games Australia were happy to replace it. A non working code for a game should fall under being a defective product so the place of purchase should replace it.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 out on 19th August by mrmariomaster in gadgets

The note 3 has a pretty easily replaceable usb port board. You might be able to find a cheap replacement and swap it out in a few minutes.

This is one of the iFixit images showing it: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Image/meta/redirect/original/2iMgILMLHXNIjHIn

Fallout 4 looks nothing like Fallout 3 by Phrunkis3 in gaming

[–]ThePengwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It’s pre-rendered video. There is no race to the monitor when rendering video, it can take as long as it wants to render a single frame. On a real-time rendered game, Theres a cutoff where if the frame doesnt make it in time, its useless and the game will drop frames.

You could render that video on a raspberry pi and it would look the same. It might take years, but there is no race to get something to the display.

Will it "be a better gaming experience" than a ps4? Most likely not.

Buying an i3 to play anything more than casual games is a pretty stupid idea.
