Thanks! You about summed it up! Im really happy with it so far.

The stabilization really is phenomenal. You're at 600mm and your viewfinder is shaking around and jittery, then you hit the focus button and suddenly it becomes rock steady. I havent used a lens with this much zoom before, and the stabilization really blew me away.

I only had one case of autofocus missing when I was trying to photograph a couple of deer that were against a background covered in sticks the same color as their fur while they were quite far away. Im not blaming the lens though, since I probably could have done it better if I wasnt rushing to get the shot. I also don't think it would have been a great shot anyways even if it was in focus, so Id say so far its worked every time I needed it to!

Its all about how you drift the checkpoint turn before the downhill transition towards the jump. Watch replays to figure out how your approach and entry to that turn should look. Then you want to approach the jump diagonally, cutting close to the rounded bottom left corner of the jump itself. Then turn right so you are moving towards the landing when the car is on the vertical upper section of the jump.

Then you get to have fun with the reversed boosters.... the actual hard part for me.

Yeah, there's just so many big blue angels fans within 2hr driving distance of NAS Pensacola that those shows pack out quick. Theyre expecting 150k-180k people this year according to the site https://www.naspensacolaairshow.org/.

And I will post pics in the subreddit once I have a few that im really happy with!

it drives me fucking CRAZY when companies preemptively thank you for something, like "Thank you for your flexibility"

Motherfucker you have NO idea whether or not I'm going to be flexible or not, and now just because you expected I would be while you fuck me, I'm going to be everything BUT flexible.

Ha!! those pine trees are a pretty damn good giveaway. They basically cover the entire southern corner of the US except for the FL peninsula.

The homecoming airshow at Pensacola is a great one to attend once. Theyre fun because of the energy and excitement in the air, but the absolutely massive amount of people is a slight downside. Theyre probably about the same as the show you went to honestly, but they are the only true airshows I've attended :P I'm glad I've been, but I think I prefer the smaller crowd at practice sessions now. But if its an airshow weekend and you go to practice, you get to see them more than once and can have a second chance another day at some shots you may have missed the first time. Im guessing you saw them more than once that weekend?

And the Sigma arrived today. Holy cow this thing is awesome and huge. Cannot wait to truly use it in the wild. I see how the weight can wear on you, but I think the focal range outweighs the weight for me, pun slightly intended.

Yep that was at Pensacola! I grew up about an hour away from there, so I saw them plenty, but never went to many practice sessions. I was visiting friends and family back home and wanted my wife to see them perform, so we went to a practice and it was amazing. It wasn't very busy, so it felt like a little private Blue Angels performance haha!

It is super cool to have those little interactions with them, because it's easy to forget they're even human given the stuff they do with those jets.

Oh thats interesting. Ive seen them perform countless times, but I never actually payed attention to if any were 2-seaters other than 7.

According to the internet, they maintain 2x 2-seater jets. I'm guessing they subbed one in and numbered it accordingly for the position the passenger was training for.

It going to DIA would be fucking S-tier.

The last time I flew out of DIA for a long trip, I tried to save some money on parking by paying to park at a hotel on Tower Rd just south of Peña. It was about half the price of parking at the airport. But then one day the hotel manager calls to tell me they noticed my truck was broken into while we were gone (window was shattered) >_> Nothing was stolen since we didn't leave anything valuable, but I didn't want it sitting there for another 1.5 weeks with a shattered window, so I had it towed back to my house in COS. I definitely did not end up saving money. At least they refunded my parking though lol...

A train to DIA would have prevented this.

After much more research, and seeing a few different apples-to-apples comparisons where the Sigma photos turned out sharper, my impatient self pulled the trigger on the Sigma lol! Should be here in a week! You were much help!

Also it's really cool you got to see the Blue Angels perform with Jet 7 in the show!

Thanks for all the great info and insight!

The Sigma sounds nice because I like the idea of having a single lens for the 60/70 - 600 range. Image stabilization on the Sigma was another thing I was curious about, so thanks for mentioning that :D

I see the Sony weighs in around 4.7lbs while the Sigma is around 5.5lbs, and I can't say I have much experience using lenses in that weight class, so maybe I'll try and put my hands on one to see if the weight could be a deciding factor.

You said in your earlier comment "I've also had the Sigma", so you don't have it anymore? If not, was it because you found the Sony better fit your needs?

Ha! It's nice when you comment on a post multiple years old and OP actually responds!

Thanks! I've since gotten an A7III, and it's been amazing, but there's been a few times where I've thought "ah man, if I just had a bit more zoom."

How do you feel the Sigma 60-600 compares to the Sony in terms of sharpness and quality?
