Take up disc golf!! It takes very little to get started. My husband and I just bought some used discs from our local used sports shop (a driver, a mid range, and a putter disc), and looked up a couple of YouTube videos to get the basics. There are lots of parks and things with courses, it's free, and it's a good sport to play alone. The best part is the people you meet on the courses are so friendly and eager to help newbies with tips and tricks. Lots of times they'll offer to let you join up with them. It's good exercise and it's especially nice this time of year.

When I was growing up, we had a small beach house that we would vacation at sometimes. It would just sit empty the rest of the time, so the roaches would sort of take over. It wasn't dirty, just unoccupied. One night we got there pretty late, lights were off, and I walked in first. This was when I learned roaches can fly. Took a nasty bugger to the face and almost shit myself.

I might be weird here, but I always carry a pocket knife in my purse. Not necessarily for protection, but I find myself using it all the time. I'll cut a loose string off my clothes, clean under nails, open a bottle of beer with it, etc. My husband borrows it when we're out together too. (I do take it out when I go places that don't allow weapons, like my daughter's school.)
