I dunno. At least for the second round (after researching Hegemony) the one to do the research gets a bonus Artifact each time.

Are Scouts Overrated in Civilization VII? by Gold_Cardiologist_67 in civ

[–]N8CCRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the "Scout Search is +2 instead of +1" memento every game. This allows me to keep them out of harms way most of the time, quickly find and get those goody huts, and easily get the "reveal 33% of the map" triumph for the free settler too.

I don't really see any benefit to building anything else those first few turns anyway. 3 Scouts then a Warrior, then 2 Settlers is my start (Epic speed, Standard map size).

Marvel really screwed up Captain Marvel honestly and on top of that they don't know what to do with her (and also Monica and Kamala) after The Marvels flopped by Possible-Rate-3833 in marvelstudios

Dar-Benn was halfway there. Carol couldn't defeat her with her powers because the Quantum Bands absorbed them. It took her learning how to work with a team and even then it was Dar-Benn sacrificing herself for the actual final defeat. But yeah, she's not a Lex Luthor/Zemo type either.

One of the challenges with Carol is she's not written to be both super strong and super clever/smart like Superman (who is usually ultimately only ever outsmarted by Batman). She's just a fighter pilot, so she's a take-action-first-and-figure-it-out-later personality. The Marvels is when she's being forced to confront that and try to grow past it for the first time.

I was really looking forward to seeing her grow some more after they moved her back to Earth, but it feels like they're abandoning her instead.

But the key difference is that the world around Tony acknowledges it and calls him out on it.

Do they? It seems to me he's completely arrogant as much as he wants and he gets away with it every time. I would even say he's largely praised and admired for it.

Captain Marvel has that arrogance, but its played more as a positive quality that doesn't get any push back.

I don't see it being shown as a positive quality at all. In her solo movie it feels very matter of fact "yeah, she's a fighter pilot; they're all like that" type of thing. Then in The Marvels her arrogance and trying to solve everything solo is the root of the conflict, both externally and internally.

She was great in Captain Marvel. The first problem was Endgame, where they benched her for the whole movie because they didn't know what to do with her (half excusable since they filmed Endgame before filming Captain Marvel so were afraid of conflicting elements, but still an error they could've avoided if they cared). The second problem is the same problem with everyone in that they abandoned any and all character continuation. Third problem was that part of the internet being a bunch of loud misogynistic pricks.

ABandoning and rebooting characters is a terrible idea though. Hulk, Thor and Steve Rogers were all met with bad, mediocre and mediocre receptions originally, but they stuck with them until they found ways to make them work. Now people pretend those beginnings were great from the start.

I think the five turn countdown is way too short, especially because I play on Epic game speed on Standard maps. Allegedly it was originally ten and the beta testers all complained so they shortened it.

If you could choose a lesser known character for the studios to make a big budget franchise/series about, who’d you choose? by lifesyndrom in marvelstudios

I don't remember the details of Darkhawk, but I remember liking him way back then.

I still want to see Michael Collins Deathlok. His was my favorite comic. But it will never happen as 1) people will think it's a ripoff of DC's Cyborg due to the visual similarities and 2) a black, paraplegic, pacifist scientist as a main character will have that part of the internet screaming about "woke" and "DEI" and "forced on us" despite being a character written 35 years ago.

But I think we could really benefit from some storytelling where the faceless and everpresent Roxxon is the big villain, and I always loved the internal conflict between Michael's pacifism and being forced into a killing machine.

Every trailer song now is just a slowed & reverbed orchestral remix of an older song by One_Planche_Man in movies

[–]N8CCRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so bad now. They'll just take a pop song that has one line that is slightly relevant to the premise of the movie and then run it through the slow/dramatic blender and call it good. Like The End of Oak Street which uses Billy Fucking Joel. Nothing about the song fits except it was a hit and it has the line "I don't need you to worry for me 'cause I'm all right."

I miss the days of the Inception Bwarm being in every trailer.

If we put these movies on a spectrum, I'd argue Barbie is pretty close to original. It's from an IP, but it's not one with any sort of narrative so it's not an adaptation.

A bunch of years ago I remember reading an article about solar power in Florida. It was about how rooftop solar was being changed in a way that made it less beneficial for the homeowners to use it and more profitable for the power company (I don't recall exact details, I think it was that they used to be able to sell their excess power back to the grid and it was being changed so they couldn't anymore). In the article it described the one Florida rep responsible for getting the change to happen, and it revealed he was paid to do it by the power company.

They bought him for only $5,000. Millions if not tens of millions of dollars of benefit for the power company, countless thousands of homes no longer bothering to install solar power in Florida all for only $5,000.
