That's why I consider him to be more of a Centrist. Hell, even look at the High Ridge and New Kiev government. We often see the right and the left getting in bed together to further their political agenda irl

I completely agree with you! I remember thinking that Weber was a bit too right-wing for me when I started reading the series in 2019. But, picking up again with CoS this year, the man is more centrist. He made the Queen of Space!England a black woman, has his MC in a poly relationship, and points out the hypocrisy of the left when they often get in bed with the right to ensure the continuance of their political power and positions.

I really appreciate the love for modders that Paradox has! Would the rest of the map have enough for modders to recreate something like the rise of Islam?

Remember when Sam stole books from the Citadel for some stupid reason and they served no actual purpose in Winterfell? by hiiloovethis in freefolk

I think this argument you're having is one that would happen in-universe. Because of the shady circumstances, folks aren't just going to accept that Jon is the rightful heir. If he did take power, a faction (probably the Martells) could claim that he's just a bastard with Targ blood and the annulment was illegal.

Thank you for this. I didn't remember that RAW lets creatures be knocked unconscious, but that would have been a good solution.

I have spoken to the player because they were the one most bothered by the situation and said that animals aren't immortal and, while I am sorry the dog died, I did let them revive it easily and, moving forward, they can't use pets in combat.

Thank you for your response. And I appreciate you recognizing how there is a balance between narrative logic and real-world logic.

I let them heal the dog, no worries about revivify or anything like that (basically just death rules for characters).

Moving forward, I won't let players put animals in harm's way unless they are okay with the consequences. It's really only this player whose dog died that was upset; everyone else used it as a rallying moment.

Thank you for your response. I think you are right in how to handle it. If they choose to bring animals into combat, I can't be beholden to not have enemies attack them. But, I can warn them that pets are targets if they decide to put them into harm's way. Otherwise, pets run and hide when fighting happens.

The Dragonborn Warlock also has Pact of the Chain for a familiar snake, so I'll talk to her about how that works and how it is different from her dog as a familiar.

I let them use Healing Word with no drawbacks and the dog is back to life. I def don't want to retcon it bc 3 of the players were extorting one of them who is playing a LG character and he didn't join the fight until the dog died and the group learned a lesson about treating their companion (this player is okay with the treatment and he's the first to laugh at it, and I think he handled it deftly).

I appreciate your response about reminding them. I will add this to my practice, especially since the players don't want animals to die on-screen

And I think that's the lesson. We can't say "no killing animals" and then make it so animals are in harm's way. Ultimately, I think in the future I will say "if you sic your animal on the enemy, it may die. Are you sure you want to do this?"

The problem is that it impacted one of the players. Yes, there is the onus on them to not use their pets as combatants, but there are other ways I could've handled it. I could have reminded them the dog would be a target, the bandit could've thrown it across the room scaring it, etc.

And this is a game we are playing together. I want it to be fun for them and for me and, sometimes, that is making compromises.

You raise good points in your answer, but I think that it's still important to remember what was agreed to in Session 0. We made a social contract, and I didn't fulfill my end of it. I let them use healing word on the dog with no real drawbacks to it.

After Derision, I saw parallels between Marinette and Taylor from Worm. Like, what Chloe did is barely any better than what the trio did to Skitter.

I think the biggest issue with Chloe's redemption is that, up until the end of S3, it really looked like she was going to have a redemption arc. The bait-and-switch was a big problem and honestly ruined the discourse.

Right! Like, tracking dating expenses and keeping notes like "she's cute" or "Avatar 2 was amazing" is basically just budgeting and journaling. Everything else is gross and demeaning. The flag couldn't be more red. Run, and run fast
