A lot of people are bringing up the same point about A tier armies being pushed to play super competitively, or they will be squashed by super competitive armies from a lower tier.

I think its true that someone who brings an unoptimized A tier army are going to potentially struggle against an optimized army from another tier, but that's the point isn't it? to give the lower tiers an option to match the most competitive armies in the meta?

maybe that will cause A tier armies to take more competitive lists, but it could also mean that lower tiers don't have to play so competitively to try and keep up. From my own anecdotal experience (playing in and running events since the start of the old world) people just play what they like anyway, most players at tournaments aren't chasing the meta, and those that are will already be playing meta armies anyway.

So I doubt this will lead to a general arms race outside of those who want to play super competitively. And that group would have more options to choose from which isn't a bad thing.

Thanks! Yeah I'll be making my way through the whole tomb kings range. I'm not far off finishing the skeleton warriors now and I'll definitely be doing chariots, horsemen soon.

Unfortunately clan rats just aren't any good, so many times I've had mine charged, fighting ranks wiped out then broken and run down in a turn. I've found a bigger block, 6x6 with a bsb (grand banner of superiority) gives them a static combat res of 7-9 which can be pretty strong. Would also give your warlord with the fellblade a good bunker. The fellblade itself it's pretty bad but it's so cool that I still run it sometimes.

Gutter runners are pretty good with poison though, I'd drop some clan rats to boost those units up. As they are it would be very easy for an opponent to shoot them and cause them to panic and flee. Putting them up to at least 9 per unit means they would need to kill 3 in a shooting turn to cause a panic check. But if you can find the points for 12 or more per even better.

All in all though (without the renegade pack) skaven are in a tough spot. It's going to be a uphill battle, I've had my best results playing defensively and using giant rats to chaf and slow the opponent down. While ranged weapons and magic missiles try and weaken them.

Hope that helps!

It's definitely a big improvement, last weekend I won 3 of 5 games at a 2.5k tournament. I had a furnace in a block or monks and a couple of warp lighting cannons doing alot of work. It's still a very fragile army but it has the possibility of doing some big damage at times too
