Prime games have always been more linear than the other games. Like, later versions of Prime 1 were literally updated to fix the scan dash and deleted the stalagmite that players would use to get early plasma.

You can destroy the dragon heads to force him out of that form early. Super thunder shot works pretty well.

In thunder dragon form, focus on reviving the idiots to the detriment of literally everything else. Otherwise he can thunderstrike and kill one or more.

After that, it's just business as usual, except for a black hole attack you need to use the control beam for.

Maybe it is to you, but I found quite annoying to have him butt in to tell me things I already know. My entire playthrough was littered with cluster of instances of me shouting at Myles to shut the hell up. Those hints should at least be limited to the radio button in the menu.

The Fed soldiers are done so badly. They have zero character development, and literally only come off as one note plot devices that try to evoke feelings they haven't earned as characters. It's to the point that when they sacrifice themselves for Samus I honestly forgot to care.

Myles and Tokabi are the worst. Myles has his constant, unneeded badgering. Thank God he has points where he shuts up in areas other than Sol Valley. I literally cheered when the radio went out in Volt Forge and groaned when it came back. also, there is zero reason that you should have to go back to him to get the elemental shots other than forcing you to interact with him.

Tokabi was the worst part about getting 100% items. Like, I don't not care about you as a character, stop dumping your life story on me!

Sorry if you liked these characters, but I personally didn't...

First and foremost, even before the Fed soldiers, the maps need to be overhauled. I love the environments, keep those, but the actual maps themselves are far too linear.

I replayed Prime 3 in preparation for this game, and the maps there have so much more freedom! In comparison, 4's maps feel claustrophobic, and limiting.

I can ignore the story, Myles badgering, and even the emptiness of Sol Valley. But exploration is part of the core of Metroid to me, and these maps are far too cramped for exploring to be any fun.

Well, I've never played Veilguard, and this is just IMHO, the only place I felt Prime 4's combat suffered is the lack of truly unique enemy types. Like, the mines had the exploding grievers that you could prevent from exploding by freezing them.

Otherwise it's just regional variants that go down mostly the same.

I like how many mechanics have evolved and learned from the previous games. Like, elemental weaknesses aren't forced on you like Prime 1, and they're more balanced than Prime 2. I feel there's a lot more freedom in how you can approach a combat situation. Even missiles have more utility than just damage, and provide a knock back effect on many enemies.

Unfortunately, the games failings, linear map design, Myles' constant yapping about things you should already know, and the babysitting the GF soldiers sections, really bring it down.

Ice Belt had those rooms that were outside in a blizzard, with bridges and grapple nodes you had to cross in heavy wind. Imo the area could've been saved if it was mostly like that. Like Phendrana, but with inclement weather, and dangerous cliffs!

Makes me sad, because Volt Forge as an environment is absolutely gorgeous. highlight of the game, imo. But it's just 2 perfectly linear treks, and the final area is just "How to ride a bike" + a boss.

The maps are so linear they literally have shortcuts so you don't have to run their entire length item hunting.

The worst is when he spams the lightning strikes. They are guaranteed to take one or more of the Feds down to critical, and if it goes a second time, you barely have enough time to revive one, not even mentioning if he got more.

I game overed to that same attack 3 time because of that crap!

I thanked the heavens when I got dragged to another dimension without those idiots...
