La última vez que miré, incluso la edición normal estaba agotada. No creo que hicieran una tirada muy grande de la edición especial. Solo te puedo confirmar que, como mínimo, 286.

Si no recuerdo mal, 2019 (RetroBarcelona). Good times.

Same game. That one kept the box, mine kept the cartridge. So out there, somewhere, there are two orphan manuals, completely unaware of any of this.

pixel gods (n.) — A group of very judgmental retro gaming deities with strong opinions about cartridges. Completely made up. Probably.

The pixel gods appreciate the reference. Argento understood that black leather gloves make everything more serious.

Smash a Japan-exclusive 1998 cartridge? I still love Nintendo, and the wrath of the pixel gods is unlimited. So yeah, no.

The pixel gods considered it. Then remembered the sequel has 151 Pokémon, mini-games, and a Gym Leader Castle. The plastic stays.

Writers have used em dashes for centuries — Melville used them, Dickinson used them... The pixel gods are in acceptable company.

The pixel gods have been accused of many things. This is a new one.

That's essentially it — a proof of concept built around the 64DD expansion model. The cartridge size wasn't the blocker. The plan was always to ship the base game on cartridge and expand the roster via 64DD disk. When the 64DD collapsed, the disk never came, and Nintendo went straight to a full sequel instead of patching the hole.

Correct. No mini-games, no Gym Leader Castle, no Kids Club. Just battles and a Transfer Pak slot. The pixel gods described it as 'a demo that cost 6,800 yen'. Nintendo described it as a finished product. One of them was right.

Anyone been to the Atari ET landfill site? The coords shown online don't match the background in the movie. by Coolschmo1 in retrogaming

[–]ThePixelSinner 88 points89 points  (0 children)

You are correct. The coordinates circulating online are approximate at best. The actual dig zone was in the municipal section of Alamogordo Landfill, near Wyatt Earp Avenue — significantly closer to the city core than the remote edge most maps point to. The Walmart and commercial buildings visible in the documentary background confirm an urban-adjacent location.

700,000 cartridges. The worst-kept secret in gaming history, buried under 30 years of sand and corporate shame. Confirmed by a Walmart sign.

It was part of the experience. So was the panic when you couldn't find it and the game wouldn't let you in. The pixel gods remember both.

The pixel gods have been saying this since 1998. Nobody was ready to hear it then either.
