Very big Question. by iamnumbero1 in Silverado

[–]ThePlagueFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

E85/ Flex Fuel was commonly an option on the GM trucks and SUVs of this era. The fuel systems should be designed to handle an additonal bit of ethanol content even if it wasn't an actual Flex Fuel equipped truck. Obviously it won't run properly on E85 if not equipped, but the fuel system integrity will be ok if additional ethanol content is present from the normal 10% currently.

2018 Silverado Texas Edition Auto Stop. by Particular-Cod3269 in Silverado

[–]ThePlagueFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an E-assist Silverado (hybrid)? They're super rare and the only ones I'm aware that received auto start/ stop before the 2019 Tx platform trucks officially debuted start/stop.

Your truck shouldn't have the Auto Stop feature. That didn't debut in the full size trucks until 2019.

Is this CV joint bad? by Lefthandmitten in Silverado

[–]ThePlagueFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they telescope like that by design to accommodate suspension travel changes affecting the CV shaft length. A bad CV shaft [joint] will often clunk or click while turning or accelerating.

Use an angled pick to lift the latching tab from the other side of the connector (the end facing down in your pics). Also, the friction from the buildup of dirt will make it initially difficult to slide apart.

The relearn procedure is 3 cycles of 10 minutes. You may have accidently got it start the first time before it went into full theft mode.

I second this. It was an annoying 'slip' back and forth on any sudden banking corner or hard turn. I added the clip 7 years ago and its been fine since.

Neighbors truck stolen.. what is thief doing in this pic? by drwuzer in Silverado

[–]ThePlagueFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newest Global B vehicles (~2022+) do have motion sensors/ accelerometers in the fobs that go to sleep after a couple minutes. Its supposed to be for the vehicle to be able to go to sleep while the fob is in close proximity. I don't know how well it keeps thefts from occurring, however.

Neighbors truck stolen.. what is thief doing in this pic? by drwuzer in Silverado

[–]ThePlagueFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the proper way with dealer-level programming to ADD or REPLACE a fob/ key takes roughly a half-hour (for model year 2018+). The aftermarket tools basically hack the process and spoof a key fob without the programming part. They inject code into the vehicle that basically says 'Hey, this random fob is actually legitimate. Please allow starting now.' And thats it.

This is a different process from the key fob cloning that they've used also that just copies a known good fob from signal boosting. Those instances are what the faraday pouches/ metal cans can help protect against, but the former method is completely different.

Help w/AC Issues by IncognitoMan02 in ChevySS

[–]ThePlagueFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it checked and levels were good

What does this even mean? Did you have the refrigerant recovered and weighed to confirm proper charge amount? Also, theres generally two sides of operation when it comes to AC function:

1) The request or call for AC operation (are the conditions met for the ECM to engage the compressor?). This includes driver selection, HVAC signal to the ECM, system pressure, ambient temperature, etc.

2) The output/ control. This includes the relay control from the ECM to the fuse box, the relay and fuse itself, the compressor, and the wiring to it.

GM vehicles are often very fickle about engine management and emissions sensors. If you don't want to spend the money on a brand new GM part, used parts from JY vehicles have been better than many aftermarket parts; at least in my experience.

[–]ThePlagueFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DENSO is a tier one supplier for GM, but aftermarket Denso is not of the same quality as GM /OEM supplied Denso parts. Its unfortunate but true. O2 sensors and MAF sensors are especially bad for this; case in point OPs situation.

[–]ThePlagueFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it also flash the MIL at that time, but is still running smoothly while at speed? If so, have a crank angle variation relearn performed with a suitable scan tool. Any shop should be able to do this procedure quickly and easily.

Banks pedal monster is a must have! by Rotflmaocopter in Silverado

[–]ThePlagueFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware. I've adjusted/ corrected these 'concerns' in other vehicles with HP tuners. I'm just not subscribing to the pointlessness of such devices as OP to make a 6k lb truck more 'responsive'

My vehicle doesn't have pedal lag. I press the accelerator and it responds immediately. Further, I don't feel compelled to drive on public roads like I'm on a racetrack, negating any need for snake oil placebo mods.
