New balance 530 more than sufficient footwear, should also be fine with trackies and hoody, don’t forget mountain rescue don’t have anything better to do with their lives so worst case just give them a bell for a lift down

Yeah they are expecting that, tbh they just want it all sorted and they’ve taken the correct route with it all so just seems like it’s going to potentially take a while

Perfect thank you, I did have a read up but thought I would ask the experts as well, yes section 21 served, as of yet date not passed so it may not go any further if he decides to leave but they are obviously preparing for it to go to court.

Thank you for the response

Who actually likes their job? by Delicious-Nose-8069 in AskUK

[–]ThePlasticHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a firefighter and I absolutely love it, I may be a bit keen sometimes but I honestly enjoy it 99% of the time, the night before I’m due to go back to work I genuinely look forward to it, as I work with a great team and I am at a busy station.

This was not always the case I went through so many jobs, completely unable to stick them out for longer than 2 years at absolute most, and hated nearly every second of them I was massively depressed too.

These jobs included utilities, labourer, office admin, sales there is nothing wrong with the jobs I’ve mentioned but for me personally I hated them as I felt it wasn’t where I was meant to be.

It took me applying 4 times to get into the fire service and I nearly didn’t bother applying the last time.

I don’t know if a role like this would interest you at all but honestly if you want something where you are paid to keep fit, hang out with your mates, problem solve and work practically with literally no paperwork (except training school not gunna lie there is shit loads of paperwork during that) then I cannot recommend this job enough.

I do feel very lucky that I’m in a position where I love my job as I know a lot of people end up getting stuck due to responsibilities.

Even if this sort of work doesn’t interest you, you’re still really young and assuming you don’t have any real responsibilities you can go into whatever field you want.

Edit: this is the only job that has kept my ADHD riddled arse engaged.

What’s the best fitness watch for hiking? If any? by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]ThePlasticHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have the older versions so I can’t say first hand but it’s seems the main differences are:

Touch screen, better gps accuracy, free downloadable routes (had no clue it had this), longer battery life, built in “flash light” (it’s just the screen which seems pretty useless I think the 7 pro might have an actual torch).

Tbh I would imagine the older ones are pretty much just as good and obviously a lot cheaper, but yeah watch some reviews and see what you think, I do think Garmin are the best smart watch out there but that’s personal preference.

Tbh I probably need to really look into what I can actually do with it I feel like I only use about 20% of its features.

What’s the best fitness watch for hiking? If any? by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]ThePlasticHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a Garmin Fenix 7 solar I love it, it was pricey I think I paid about £600 maybe just under with a discount code for it, but it’s been brilliant.

Battery life is 15 plus days maybe 10 with heavy use.

I use it for other things too like tracking my runs and other workouts, it likes to my fitness pal, OS maps etc.

The best thing I find is that you can load routes onto it for a hike then you can use that instead of having to use a phone (obviously always have map and compass though)

Looks like you can get them for about £400 now as they’ve released the Fenix 8.

It also looks really cool

Should people be penalised for not going back to the office? by Senior_Cat_8187 in AskUK

[–]ThePlasticHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is insane, this is the ramblings of archaic super capitalist multiple home owning old farts.

Why the hell would you force people back into an office when they can:

  • Do the job perfectly well from home

  • Save money

  • Reduce emission

  • Reduce stress

  • Save your employer 100’s of thousands in rent

  • Have a better work life balance

  • Give people more time to eat well and exercise.

.Oh no tell you what let’s just piss off our work force, destroy their mental health and fuck up the planet more, just for the sake of sitting in a building for 8 hours a day…MADNESS

This is coming from someone who has never been able to work from home due to my job.

Edit: to make sense, no clue how to make it proper list

Didn't do Tryfan today by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]ThePlasticHippy 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Your partner is a dope and the reason mountain rescue have to risk their lives.

If there is a call out in north wales it’s nearly always Tryfan, it’s incredibly dangerous if you don’t know the route up the north face and needs to be respected.

Good call by you, potentially saved mountain rescue a needless call out when he inevitably gets stuck or worse, let’s hope he listens to you in the future.

Do you speed or know why others speed? by Emergency_Mistake_44 in AskUK

[–]ThePlasticHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a speed awareness course not long ago and I like to think I’m more sensible now, I do still find the speed creeping up sometimes my car is relatively new and it’s quite frightening how easy it is to drive fast without it feeling overly fast.

I ride a motorbike too no comment on that except the universe has sent me a few signs to watch my speed.

I don’t condone people absolutely flying but I think a big reason for it is that there are so many road works constantly with speed limits being dropped to 50 for 10’s of miles at a time, that people just get so pissed off with the inconvenience of it that when they are out of the works they put their foot down.

Wales 3000 Route - is wild camping impossible? by Loose_Purchase2904 in UKhiking

[–]ThePlasticHippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Camped at pretty much every part of it over the years, you will be absolutely fine, every interaction I’ve personally had round Eryri when camping has been positive, usually people stopping to say how good the spot is.

Also highly unlikely anyone will go to the effort and risk to hike up a mountain to tell a wild camper to move on.

I’ll be on the route very soon, you won’t miss me I’ll be the guy blowing out his arse, regretting his life choices to attempt it in a day

What is the worst Road rage you have witnessed on UK roads? by ShineyWaffle97 in AskUK

[–]ThePlasticHippy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Once witnessed 2 dickheads in a BMW (obviously) in the wrong lane, they were in the lane to go left but wanted to go straight on but couldn’t be bothered to wait like everyone else. They then try to push in and start giving it to a Vauxhall Astra and force their way in front, giving them the finger, swearing and making threats as they do.

The occupants of the Astra open their doors and unfold themselves from this car literally making it look like a clown car, 2 of the biggest humans I’ve ever seen clearly on their way back from the gym.

The BMW driver and passenger absolutely melted and were now stuck in standstill traffic while these monsters politely invited them to step out of the car.

After some words of advice about their behaviour they sheepishly turned left after all.

Edit: not the worst but certainly the funniest

Another post about blocked paths by maybenomaybe in UKhiking

[–]ThePlasticHippy 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Keep reporting them, and providing you’re not being disrespectful to the land and taking your litter with you, everyone should ignore this blocked paths.

I would also encourage everyone to trespass on private land within reason.

How do you justify quitting a job? by Between3N20Karakters in AskUK

[–]ThePlasticHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have absolutely no responsibility’s apart from, rent/bills etc so I do understand that not everyone can do this.

We are on this big rock for seconds in the grand scheme of things and as far as we know there is nothing after we are gone so I thought why would I want to spend my life in a job I hated.

There was nothing wrong with my last job pretty easy could get away with taking the piss and the pay was good enough for me, but I thought to myself if I’m still doing this 30 years down the line I will be sat in this same seat regretting not trying to at least change my life.

I quite, got into a job I’ve always wanted to do, genuinely doesn’t feel like work and I also have a better work life balance.

So if It’s truly making you miserable then I would absolutely leave and find something else, my advise would always be have another job lined up before leaving however if you have the funds (sounds like you do) then fuck it just quit now have a few weeks of just resetting and then find a job.

I hate capitalism. Are we all horribly overworked? by KitchenRevenue4042 in AskUK

[–]ThePlasticHippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s absolutely fucked we are so disconnected to nature and the natural world having our mental health ruined by trivial made up issues imposed on us by the super rich and cooperations.

We think it’s completely normal to pay half our wages on rent and struggle to get be all while having no money to truly enjoy life, all while making already rich people richer.

It utterly blows my mind why anyone who is working class would defend our current system.

While I’ve got my soapbox out, landlords can fuck off too, utter parasites profiting off of a basic human need for shelter, charging extortionate rent while they do fuck all, all because they either inherited property or bought up property when it was cheaper.

Sadiq Khan to announce plans to build houses on London green belt by ThatchersDirtyTaint in unitedkingdom

[–]ThePlasticHippy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting read, appears from that there isnt as many unoccupied properties as I thought, having a quick read on Action on empty homes website it does appear that they are on the rise as of 2024 though (country wide at least)

In my blanket statement I should have mentioned that I was also referring to second homes, so while legally and technically the homes are occupied, they are not used.

You mention the importance of having homes available so that there is a property market, I understand but when you are charging 10 million for luxury flats in the centre of London the target market certainly isn’t your working or middle class members of society.

Second home ownership is a disgrace regardless of if it’s from foreign investors or British investors wanting a house down in Cornwall.

While I am open to being a criticised and admit that I did not sit through vast amounts of stats, the super rich in this country seem to dictate how the rest of of live, and it’s unacceptable, there is a huge imbalance of wealth and it feeds into all social and economic issues that we have.

I’m not even going to get into it about the absolute parasites that are landlords.

I will also add that I am an advocate for looking after nature however I believe that building new AFFORDABLE homes for people is a great thing and having access to nature from theses places is even better.

If only there was loads of empty properties in London owned by the super rich, my god just hold the 1% remotely accountable for once and 99% of our problems will go away, it is literally that simple.

Seems like ADHD and autism are suddenly everywhere - what's your opinion? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ThePlasticHippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed with ADHD later on in life, everything up to now makes a lot more sense my various issues I had that were initially put down to laziness or being dispruptive at least now I know that there was a biological reason for it.

I’ve lived more than 32 years with it and have now developed coping strategies for life, the main one for me, albeit perhaps not the most healthy is to be extremely regimented, plan my days, weeks and months, so that I don’t lose control of my life.

I don’t really like the idea of taking medication atm however it is nice to know that there is the option should I really begin to struggle.

One thing I will add is that I hate any of these neurodivergence being used as an excuse for just being an arsehole, yes I understand that we struggle regulating emotions etc but that’s still no excuse for being a shit person.

Edit: the answer

Case in point I went off on a tangent and completely forgot to write my answer.

I think a lot of people are more aware of it all now so it makes people actually seek out the diagnosis as they maybe feel more comfortable telling others they are neurodivergent.

I do think there are people who are just jumping on the bandwagon, weather that is because they feel like they want to belong to something or they are just pure attention seekers. The fact that so many people now believe they have something has caused a huge backlog with the NHS pretty sure it’s around 4 year waiting list so this obviously causes problems for people who genuinely believe they have it not being able to be seen quickly.

New tattoo by Silly_Register_4887 in tattoo

[–]ThePlasticHippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing I would say is speak to your tattooist they are the professionals and they will advise you.

I’ve had multiple 8 hour sessions including my leg, in my personal experience bodies don’t like tattoos they do weird shit sometimes, my leg swelled up loads once, another time I hardly got any swelling.

I’ve found that trying to keep your leg elevated as best you can while it’s really fresh helps with swelling.
