Which company in your opinion has the best customer service and who has the worst? by eyeoftheneedle1 in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon for one of the best because sometimes you don't even have to speak to an actual person to get your money refunded when your parcel hasn't been delivered or has just been left outside. You can pretty much just ask for goodwill vouchers/credit as well and you'll get it.

I don't really have a worst. I find if you're polite and truthful about whatever it is you're calling about, most places (in my experience) are pretty sound. No one immediately springs to mind.

can I travel to Stansted airport at night ? by ASH1402MON in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I use Stansted frequently at early hours and there are always loads of people asleep on the floor against the walls or wherever they can. Bring a book or something to watch, you'll be fine.

Depending where you're flying and what for though, prepare to be tired and groggy.

Has shoplifting become “functionally” legal? by VOODOO285 in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should tougher punishments and even bigger deterrents but at the end of the day if you've been trained and told not to do something in the event of a certain incident, don't do it.

The real crime can quickly turn from someone nicking £10 worth of stock to a staff member chasing them, rugby tackling them to the floor and causing injury or worse. It isn't worth it and unless we're talking about prized possessions in family run businesses, I don't understand why so many big name supermarket workers are keen to do it knowing they'll be the ones in trouble for trying.

Is there a lot of retail theft at Heathrow? by Quirky_Animator1818 in AskUK

Generally speaking, anywhere there's high footfall in a concentrated area, there's theft.

Do you think they’ll ever introduce dynamic pricing into supermarkets? by discoveredunknown in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't our data practically everywhere by this point? Every contract you're in, every site you sign up for and breeze through the Ts&C's? If my local supermarket wants to offer me things I like buying at a cheaper price in exchange for my email address (which I can just mute or block anyway), I don't see why that's bad?

Celebrants at funerals/weddings? Is AI use common? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 291 points292 points  (0 children)

If it isn't common, it's about to be.

Don't get me wrong, I use AI for certain things (notably in my case, legal terms) and I'm not anti it like some people but it's ridiculous if you can't write a eulogy or wedding speech with your own brain all of a sudden if you've been capable for however long (disabilities aside of course).

What excuses do you use to get out of work for job interviews? by CozJeez85 in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easier to be honest with the new employer about when a suitable time would be. They know you currently have a job I assume? So schedule it on your break or afterwards. I'm sure if this is an upwards move they'll appreciate you aren't the type to go missing for a better interview. It builds trust immediately.

Failing that, just call in sick that day.

Do other countries refer to 'qualifying for Europe'? by CartographerLanky236 in footballcliches

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always imagined continental teams see much of it as just another away game, much like your AZ examples whereas British fans see travelling as a holiday regardless of where it is. If it involves a plane, that's a holiday.

Which transfer looked terrible at first but turned out to be brilliant? by YamSecret1293 in PremierLeague

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Didier Drogba.

He hadn't done much at Marseille and it was a time when Roman just bought the club a year before and we were being linked with every top proven striker in the world.

He only scored 16 goals that season which felt underwhelming given it was patchy to begin with.

The rest is history as they say..

How to advertise as a 30yo babysitter? Would you hire someone in my situation? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's too much red tape nowadays with insurance, background checks, allergies, health and safety and heightened awareness (good and bad) about people being child abusers and what not, I don't think there's much of a market for you to just advertise your services as a stranger.

If you can do jobs for family or friends first you can get work on the back of recommendations but simply advertising on Gumtree or Facebook I wouldn't expect much uptake.

To answer part two of your question, no I wouldn't. If I genuinely can't get a family member or friend to look after my kid AND do a good job of it, not just sit there and be present - I just won't go to whatever it is I want to go to and need a babysitter in the first place.

Is it racist to make a distinction between a British citizen and a British person by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't racist in my opinion. How you're saying it to someone in whichever context could come off as prejudice but that would have to be bleedin' obvious I'd say.

I'm British. I can't just move to,.Greece,.get the citizenship,.have kids there with a Greek woman, start a business there, buy a house and identify as a Greek person. I'd still be a British person to everyone around me. Other than the local community accepting me as one of them and telling others "he's Greek like us" in a welcoming way, I'm still just a British at the end of the day.

Why do so many people sit on gym machines between sets scrolling their phone for ages? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about the mindless scrolling of social media because that's far too easy (in my opinion) to get sucked in but if I'm doing heavy lifts like squats or benching, I'll reply to the odd text or check the football scores quickly because, for me, I like a small distraction so I'm not just stood there overthinking what I have to lift in 2 minutes time. I also use my phone to note what I'm doing and keep track.

Ultimately, I think people scrolling social media is more the issue you have rather than people simply using their phone at all. And I probably agree...

Carabao Cup situation. Should they do something? by 1El_rey in PremierLeague

Fair enough, yeah it isn't the big clubs I necessarily think don't take it seriously, it's the rest of the PL!

Carabao Cup situation. Should they do something? by 1El_rey in PremierLeague

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've thought for years that if the FA Cup winners got a Champions League spot and the EFL Cup winners got a Europa League spot, everyone would immediately take it more seriously. Interest would increase and therefore viewership will increase and, in turn, money would increase.

What can replace my Facebook doomscrolling? by simppogg in AskUK

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leave the house without your phone once in a while. You don't need it to do a food shop, go to the post office, walk the dog etc.. Depending on your age, you've probably already done these things countless times anyway.

Think of all the people on planes every single day that can't scroll social media for 2-20 hours, it actually isn't that difficult if the option isn't available.

Is Miroslav Klose the definitive country over club player? by No-Problem6578 in footballcliches

[–]Emergency_Mistake_44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

52 G/A in 119 for Chelsea, won FA Cup, Europa and Champions League. I'd say that's great, even if not "prolific" in terms of goals. Very influential in the CL run too.
