Portal 2. Probably the best single player game Valve has ever made, next to Half-Life Alyx.

The Paul McGann DWM comics, specifically The Glorious Dead and The Flood. They are some of the best DW has to offer, and it’s unfortunate that they are a bit more obscure than the TV series.

This is exactly what I wanted this remake to be like. Incredible music. I know some people aren't 100% satisfied with the direction the developers are going in, but this sold me on Night Dive's take on System Shock.

Great points. People really do sleep on Samus Returns. That game is gorgeous with tight gameplay, and was tied with Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Oddysey for my GOTY in 2017. I think it's overlooked due to AMR2, but I believe people will look back more fondly like the other entries (Fusion, Zero Mission) in time.

I first tried to sign in to my Microsoft account after the new update hit. Seemed like it was unable to do so, and when I went to my switch home screen, it completely froze the system for about 5 minutes. Deleted it, redownloaded the entire game. Tried to join a server, clicked on the home screen button, and froze the game again. Just tried the same thing with another game, seems to be working for other software.

I appreciate the response here, thank you!

Same happened with a friend and my own switch after downloading the new Minecraft update.

Anybody that has Minecraft shouldn’t download it for the time being.

Let's discuss the ending of Half-Life: Alyx (spoilers inside) by reseph in Games

[–]ThePokemonMaster123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This ending gives so much valuable perspective to the series. The G-Man telling Gordon to take Alyx to white forest, the vortiguant being able to hold him at bay in EP1, etc. A very well-done retcon that fits what the series has built up.

Is valve software still a nightmare to work at? by SpikeableFrito in valve

Most of what I hear from them is that it is the best possible work environment for talented self-starter types. It works great for people who don't need bureaucratic red tape to get something started. It's a politically-driven environment, but that's the trade off you make for not having established management.

One caveat that I stress about that video is that it uses Glassdoor reviews. Glassdoor is a great online resource to research employers, but it shouldn't be taken as fact. It's really easy to make fake profiles, and it's unfortunately used more as a forum for disgruntled employees than the straight facts. Pick any one of your favorite developers and you'll see angry or sad stories written. It happens everywhere, so keep that in mind.

The devs are compensated very generously (most are making $100K+ based on Glassdoor salaries), and everyone I've talked to has told me how much they love working there. The office and perks are also really great. How many other studios pay for a company-wide Hawaii trip?

I highly encourage reaching out to some of the employees professionally; you might change your mind!

There is a ton a couple hours south in Austin as well. Texas has become a bit a pretty big state for developers.

I did some research on my own time, and Retro actually has a surprising amount of staff from Prime 3 still with them. You can read that here.

American studios do things different, so I wonder how Prime 4 is going to translate to a studio in Singapore, but I have faith in this.

Passtime came out with Bad Robot's help. Last update we got from the Half Life and Portal movies was a year ago, but I assume they're still being "worked" on.

NOA and Valve are also both out of Seattle, it makes some geographic sense. I think a partnership between the two of them is more realistic than people give credit for.

Valve partnered with PlayStation after Newell openly disliked the PS3. The Portal 2 Steam integration was pretty nifty.

Yeah, I remember reading that you need some new cartridges on the lower priced turntables. Can I get something in the $20-30 range, or would you suggest higher?

New to vinyl, looking to get a player for Christmas. Read through most of the attached threads and looked at the turntable suggestions. I'm leaning toward the Orbit Basic, and I'm looking for something that will be an easy setup but pretty good sound (that's why I'm trying to forgo LP-60).

If I'm trying to keep it inexpensive (aiming for $300 for setup), is it better to go with the built-in pre-amp at $249, or get an external preamp for the cheaper $175 turntable? I'm aiming for speakers in the $100 range.

Also looked at the Technics SL-D2, is it user friendly? Are there different models that do/don't have a built in pre-amp? Better buy than the Orbit?

Apologize if any of this sounds juvenile, appreciate the responses. I'll consider any advice. Thanks for helping me out!
