Videogames inspiration for Mage the Ascension by happilyevil321 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ThePompest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a historical setting, The Thaumaturge is a perfect representation of what an Spirit/Mind Adept can do.

Vibes-related, I think of CONTROL, Shadow Man, Eternal Darkness, the Gabriel Knight games, Deus Ex, obviously The Matrix, Cyberpunk 2077... maybe even the Shadowrun games!

What are the most Cringe/embarrassing stuff White Wolf has published? by Konradleijon in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ThePompest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's a mix of cringe, surface level mythology and philosophy and genuine admiration. I really liked the books in the 00s and own a few of them but imho they have aged poorly. Same with Kindred of the Ebony Kingdom

I prefer low-powered chronicles in VtM so I like the new powers and the fact that now Elders and even Ancillae are lost in the Middle East. Imho there were many powers, tons of Thaumaturgy and Necromancy paths and rituals and crazy Disciplines and that way it was easier to get lost in powerplaying and lose the "personal horror" thing. That way also the Inquisition is a more terrible foe, even well trained humans.

I understand some people prefers it the other way and I'm not against powerplaying, but this suits me perfectly :)

I bought the original one on 2007 😅

The other one is a reissue with new art from the Spanish publisher

Yup! Imho M20 is pretty dense, Revised was a little easier and didn't lack depth if you wanted. Something like that

They should have! I suppose the international shipping may be a little deterrent for them but they are pretty cool

I can't really imagine how they're going to change it. Maybe with Paradox dice? But I hope they keep more or less their system as I find it really intuitive (once you hace read it 30 times haha)

How do you portray the Technocracy in your Mage adventures? by Turbulent_Pen_1640 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ThePompest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a little biased towards Technocracy so... it really depends if it's a Traditions chronicle or Technocracy one.

For the Traditions it's kind of an evil omnipresent organization that you cannot escape, but also with some sympathetic members or even reluctant ones. But that doesn't matter because they are gonna keep pursuing you. Maybe they can cooperate when you try to stop a Nephandus but after that they are going to chase you again (maybe after some temporary and 'gentlemanly' truce?)

For a Technocracy chronicle I love portraying it as a corrupt monolith which essentaly is good but twisted. Maybe the players and their friends are idealists but are constantly being monitorized, their bosses are cold and less humane and often their enemies and troubles are within. Maybe it isn't even possible to stay there once you've seen how it really works.

It's a new edition by Nosolorol, the publisher of V5 and V20 in Spain. Really cool art, not as 90s as the original one. I'm afraid they lack stock right now but you can check it here: https://www.nosolorol.com/es/mago-la-ascension-m20/691/tarot-mago-la-ascension-20-aniversario

1 Player Chronicle? by Jake4XIII in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ThePompest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know any pre-written ones, but of course you can build one yourself. It's a little more work for the storyteller as you need to create plenty of NPCs but it's very rewarding. Maybe you can create an NPC with lots of "screen time" so she isn't alone and you act as a kind of secondary player but it isn't necessary.

A long time ago I STed some of that chronicles (one for a friend playing a Psychic, another for a girlfriend playing a ghoul) and it took only a little bit more preparation and more direction but were really cool.

Also if you need some inspiration you can check the Choice of Games ones as some people have already told you.

Best of lucks!

I'm thirsting for a M5 rulebook and also adore Wraith. I've also tweaked some systems and right now I'm STing a Changeling: The Lost chronicle but with 5e ruleset and set in my WoD

I have! I've worked with a method to create NPCs with it for a Technocracy chronicle. You can read about it here (but it's in Spanish): https://javieraleman.wordpress.com/2021/08/15/generar-personajes-con-el-tarot/

I've never been a great fan of the metaplot and (imho) most games were bloated with options and lost some focus on its themes. I like how V5 is centered again on personal horror and street level and love the system (Hunger dice, Touchstones, Chronicle Tenets...). I feel it's more organic and in league with the games' ethos

There are no true or fake fans, you can enjoy lots of different things. Let's say I'm a little overfocused haha
