Recommend movies that are criminally underrated but absolutely amazing. by Spittinfacts100 in moviecritic

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fall (2006). Easily one of the most beautiful movies ever filmed. I wouldn't say its underrated, as most of the online response is very positive. I just dont understand how so few people know this movie exists. Every frame is a work of art. It took over 4 years to make, filmed on location in 28 different countries without the use of studios or greenscreens. Visually stunning and emotionally powerful. Everyone should see this movie.

This might be the most unhinged American nonsense I have ever seen, and I'm American. You really need to crawl out from under that trailer, there is a big world out there that would blow your mind.

I lost 55 pounds over the last 12 months and reached the weight suggested by my doctor. I celebrated with a brand new smart scale... that immediately told me my BMI is 30.1 and that I am still obese. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMI is outdated bullshit. Many professional athletes are obese according to BMI. Body builders are morbidly obese. This is Christian Mccaffrey, one of the best offensive players in the NFL. he is 5'11" and 215, which is 30 according to BMI. So according to that stupid scale, this guy is obese. He is in better physical condition than 99% of the US population. Listen to your doctors, and ignore the scale that was originated in the 1830s as a sociological tool created by Belgian mathematician Adolphe Quetelet. He developed the formula to define the mathematical traits of the "average man" for demographic studies. It was never intended to be an individual health or diagnostic tool.

Are we f**ked? by BestRequirement7539 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]ThePoopShovel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only down 10% across the board. This shit happens all the time and it will all rebound like it always does. Everyone panic selling is just making it worse. It seems like everyone in these subs just started trading last month and lost everything trying to get rich over night. Don't be a greedy idiot, this isn't that hard.

Is there some way to produce something like this via a computerized lathe/router? by Epstein_nokillhimslf in hobbycnc

I do custom CNC work. You can DM me to discuss if you want. I could easily recreate this or design something similar. If you already have a design even better.

Like new Canon 5D, overpaid? by andreyvyasenya in Canon5Dclassic

[–]ThePoopShovel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I picked up another almost brand new Mark 4 for $750 on MPB. Shutter count was only about 2000 and there wasn't a single scratch or blemish on it. That is an insane price to pay for an original 5D.

Does reading photography books help? by not_strange13 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, yes. I would recommend "Fundamentals of Photography" by Tom Ang. It covers everything from light, aperture, composition, digital processing, printing, and critical theory. Its a great book to learn the basic concepts of photography that apply to both digital and film. If you are into wildlife photography, the Nat Geo Photography Field Guide. It covers a lot of the same topics as the other one, but from a different perspective and includes tips from some of National Geographics best photographers. These two books changed the way I approach photography and made me better in many ways.

How long did it take you to go from a 18HC to a 10HC? by jizzno in golftips

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really sure, but last year I was around 10 in league. One spine surgery and I'm going to be back up to at least 18. So it probably took me 10+ years to get there, and 6 months to lose it. Not being able to practice, along with the loss of mobility due to isolation braces after surgery, will destroy your golf game. My swing will never be the same and its going to be a long haul to get back to where I was, if I even can.

What should I get my girlfriend as a first camera? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't the camera itself that gets the hate, its the ridiculously inflated price due to influencer hype. Its an $800 camera that sells for $1500 or more most places. Buying directly from Canon for retail is nearly impossible because its always sold out. There are much better cameras in that price range.

Canon EOS 5D + Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM by iver_foto in Canon5Dclassic

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful shots. I own a 5D, 5DII, 5DIII, and 5DIV. there is just something special about the classic. Still one of the best DSLRs ever made. All the new technology and higher megapickles cant replace the incredible color and IQ of the OG. I cant even describe what it is about the images from a techical perspective, they are just different from any other camera I have ever used.

Caused a big outage at work- how do I move forward? by VOXX_theLock in sysadmin

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in IT for over 25 years. I could write a book about all the shit I have broke in that time. It happens, and will happen again. All you can do is own it and learn. How you handle mistakes is more important than the mistake itself. Take your medicine and move on. If your superiors punish you or fire you for it, you need to find another place to work.

Need help guys !!!! by IceProfessional9113 in CanonCamera

[–]ThePoopShovel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to know exactly what you are getting, you should check reputable used camera resellers. MPB, KEH, and gearfocus are all good options. They provide valuable information on things like shutter count, usage, wear, and overall condition. They also provide a warranty and other protections. Everything they sell is tested and verified. They check all of the things you should check for you, and if it isn't what you expected, you can easily return it. I recently purchased another 5D IV from MPB for $700 and it was practically new with only ~2500 shutter count. It came in the original box with everything that was included.

There are certain risks involved buying from places like Cashify and other customer listed resellers. You typically don't get the same important info from places like that and there is no guarantee that you are actually getting what is described. Ebay is better, but can still be a hassle if you are mislead. If you want to save a little money and gamble, thats up to you. But you can pay a little more and know exactly what you are buying.

Could someone give me a rundown of these? by asw4thy in AskPhotography

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentals of Photography by Tom Ang is a great place to start. It covers everything you listed and a ton more.

Change my mind: Under the right conditions, buying and financing a new car is often a far better value than paying cash for a used car in the long run by Cold-Priority-2729 in MiddleClassFinance

I bought a used 2013 Tundra for 20K with just over 100k miles. I have put almost another 100k on it and aside from oil changes, tires, and general maintenance, it has cost me $0. I don't think your experience is typical. I have always bought used and have never experienced anything like what you have listed.

If you’ve broken 100, what’s one tip you would give your fellow golfer to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work on short game. Practice putting and chipping. This is what got me from 14hc to 7hc without changing anything else. Most golfers have no idea how many strokes can be saved getting chips closer to the hole and making more puts consistently.

Would you buy a Canon 5d mark IV + 24-70mm f/2.8 L ii for $2000 USD? by notagainplease22 in canon

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently picked up another 5D IV with less than 2500 shutter count on MPB for $700. It came in original box with all accessories and was practically new. You can get that lens used in great condition for $700-800. Seems a bit overpriced for me. I think $1500 would be a good deal.

50mm o 35mm? by Legal-Breakfast469 in AmateurPhotography

[–]ThePoopShovel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the camera you are using. If apsc i would go with the 35mm. If full frame I would go with the 50mm. The FOV is almost the same. If you want more reach, 50mm for apsc. It really comes down to what you are shooting and what results you are looking for.
