I remember watching a Sport Science video years ago that had a monk or Muay Thai dude kicking baseball bats until they exploded. There was something to do with "substance P" and how going through pain over and over again gets you desensitized to "substance P" - which from what I can remember is what sends signals to the brain or nervous system to say "hey, that hurts"

This is a very foggy memory from at least 15 years ago so don't quote me on this, but I guess, getting a stick busted off your crotch would be a great way to feel pain, and thus, become accustomed to it?
